Jasper has Pancreatitis

Posted on 08/02/08, 09:52 pm
My 4 year old cat was just diagnosed with pancreatitis. He's been in the hospital 2 days/nights..and last night had to be rushed back for pain meds/more antibiotics. He doesn't like the new diet food they have put him on and refuses to eat it. The vet says the next step is steroids. My poor cat is traumatized to hell and back..how much is enough? :( We've spent over a thousand dollars so far. I'm getting so depressed about this..and my pet is, too. Just joined the site for some support.

Heavenly Father, we ask for your mercy that this little one be not in pain. Lord, we ask that health be restored if it is your will, so Jasper will be allowed to stay here on earth a little longer where he is needed.
Father, we ask not these things for ourselves but for this small life that is so precious and carries the light of your love. Amen.

My dog had pancreatitis and the treatment was basically fasting. She was sooooo sick we took her in to be put to sleep [she's elderly and has had cancer twice]. They wanted to examine her and found that that was what she had so they put her on IVs for a few days while fasting her and she came out of it just fine. We had to give her boiled chicken and rice for a few days when she got home but within a week, she was back to her old self. We think she must have had it again and because we thought she had cancer, we assumed she was dying and didn't take her in. She fasted for a few days and was very sick but pulled out of it and is doing great.

So long as pancreatitis isn't chronic, your baby should be fine. If an elderly dog can pull through it, a young cat should be okay with a little TLC.

Welcome

This group is for everyone that has the love of animals. If you have lost a pet or have a pet that is sick then you are at the right place. We also will be discussing day to day problems that we run into with our little ones, helping each other to work through them and find the answer. This soon will be also a meeting place for all Ordained Chaplains of Pets/Animals to discuss all phases of their ministry.
