Payday nightmare!

Posted on 08/15/08, 04:11 pm
So I have been super recluse all week. Now I need grocery's and household items. I wanted to go to the commissary today to get quite a few things. But.. it's freakin PAY DAY. That place will be a zoo! The lines, the parking lot, nothing on the shelves. Why did I wait til today... I wish I could wait it out til Monday or Tuesday to let it all calm down. That just isn't possible. I need paper goods, laundry goods, hygiene goods, what the hell. I live in a huge Military town so even the local stores and good ole Walmart are out of the question. Pay days are a total nightmare. One thing I miss about living in MD where the base was small and not a Military community! Paydays didn't effect you one way or another. So it's Friday afternoon, this should be fun. I will wait out the work traffic, and make H go with me. I also need cash now to tip the baggers. Great.. one more stop in my travels. Are pay days a nightmare for anyone else in your towns?

Uggg, I will need a drink tonight when this is over!

When I got married, I was sooooo excited to go to the commisary. It was payday so I thought it was the perfect day to go shopping. Yeah....learned that lesson fast!

That's how it is here... I don't want this to bad, but a lot of the "locals" that are in the military bring everybody and their dog on payday to let them buy at the commissary since it is SO much cheaper. So you are not only fighting the regual military rush but also half of the frekin island. If I have to go I make H come with me but then he just gets more frustrated then me. Oh well!

oh yeah... this is just a pain in the butt! I went to the commissary early this morning thinking that I would beat the rush and oh my goodness... and to top it all off, my H has weekend duty this weekend and so I had to take all 3 kids with me... I walk in and there are all these airmen everywhere.... families... I am just going... why is everyone up so early... go back to sleep!!!!

I DONT KNOW MAYBE I AM CRAZY BUT I DONT MIND THAT CRAZINESS. I DIDNT GROW UP AROUND MILITARY LIFE AND WHEN I BECAME A PART OF IT I DONT KNOW IT SOUNDS FUNNY BUT I FEEL KINDA PRIVILIAGED. I MEAN WE HAVE THE COMMISSARY WHICH IS VERY MUCH CHEAPER THEN WAL MART AND IGA'S AND THERE ARE NO TAXES ON BASE IN THE EXCHANGE AND SO MANY BETTER DEALS THEN YOU WILL EVER FIND IN ANY STORES. I APPRECIATE THOSE THINGS GREATLY ESPICALLY SINCE FOR THE PAST TWO YRS WE HAVE BEEN CIVILIAN LIVING. YOU REALLY DONT APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE UNTIL YOU DONT HAVE THOSE THINGS ANYMORE. I MEAN WE HAD A BEAUTIFUL TOWNHOUSE TWO CAR GARAGE ON BASE AND IT WAS GREAT AND WE DIDNT APPRECAITE IT YA KNOW IN THE PAST TWO YRS SINCE WE BEEN IN THE CIVILIAN LIFE WE HAVE HAD LITTLE APTS AND MY HUBBY HAS BEEN WORKING TEMP JOBS TO GET US BY AND HE HAS BEEN SO MISERABLE. I LOVE GOING TO THE COMMISSARY AND EXCHANGE AND I LOVE TO SEE THE OTHER FAMILIES AND I LOVE THE CRAZINESS OF IT ALL. I HAVE COME TO APPRECIATE WHAT I GOT AND I REALIZE THAT THERE IS A BIG BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MILITARY LIFE AND CIVILIAN LIFE. SO ILL TAKE THOSE CRAZY PEOPLE ON PAYDAYS AND SOME RUDE MILITARY WIVES BECAUSE UNDERNEATH IT ALL IS GOOD PEOPLE JUST TRYING TO GET BY AND I LOVE MEETING WOMEN WHO ARE IN THE SAME BOAT AS I AM IN AND I FEEL I DONT KNOW ITS CRAZY BUT PRIVILIAGED TO HAVE MET SO MANY GOOD MEN AND WOMEN IN THE MILITARY THAT I HOPE ONE DAY I CAN GIVE BACK WHAT THEY HAVE GIVEN TO MY FAMILY!

H and I have been lazy bums for two days, maybe tomorrow is the plan to hit the stores.. we'll see. I am not a crowd person. Like saving the money, but don't deal with crowds much. I am that bitchy wife this is trying to get by while every stands around and holds up the flo. I am the huffer and puffer... LOL

LMAO, the huffer and puffer! I am the sweet one, "excuse me, pardon me."
I agree with tleak, I kind of like people watching. The kids always crack me up and make my day a little better. With the goofy things they do, I realize I am just a big kid myself! Also, I am sure I am the annoying wife without any children who antagonizes their showing off and shenanigans. Some of the things the mothers say getting onto their kids kill me, and I end up laughing at that as well. I am sure they are thinkin, "wait till you have one, and see how much you laugh then!"
It makes me think of my friend here whose daughter told the cashier her mom was trying to steal, because she got mad that her mom wouldn't let her open something before buying it! I cracked up, but mom didn't think it was funny.
Not only do the prices rock, but I find the people so much more pleasant to be around then lets say, Wal-mart. That store is like an anxiety attack ready to happen. People are pushy and rude! I think almost everyone hates Wal-mart and being there.
I kind of feel privileged too Tleak :)
Even my Mom said something about being so much better while visiting.

Today was more crazy than ever! The holiday. There was traffic jams in the isles and almost shopping cart wrecks everywhere. It was a mission!

WHOA!! You are far braver than me!! I wouldn't dare go in there today! HaHa!! :)

I still refuse to go on payday. ANd to the comment about bringing everyone under the sun to get the better prices, that pisses me off. Granted, I'm the spouse and haven't "earned" the right to the commisary (you knowwhat I mean, I dont know how to word it different); however, I think it's plain wrong to bring in family members to take advantage of things that they haven't earned nor have a right to. Does that make any sense?

Also, I guess we are in the only area where the commisary is NOT cheaper than the local stores. I understand Hawaii, but CA and VA? How much is milk and stuff locally for you?

Welcome
