Mine is so shallow that I awaken at the sound of a lone bird at 2 a.m.

Ask your doctor about treating your insomnia with acupuncture since you're already having it. That's what has helped me the most.

Have you tried anything like valarian root or melatonin yet??? They both help me to a degree.

It there anything I need to ask her about treating for insomnia with acupuncture? I think she is treating me for that, Jean. I think that the needles in the ears are for that. Do you know???? I have tried both of the above and valerian can give you the runs....while melatonin gives me some wild and crazy dreams. My body is hypersensitive to EVERYTHING at this point. I used to be able to use both of those.

You might just ask her what exactly she's working on with the treatment. Is it just pain relief, calming down your nervous system, sleep, what??? When I went in Monday, I'd been up most of the night due to hormones so he said he was going to work on those too.

Do you have the acupressure info on insomnia that I posted??? It's the same as in that book I got that you had mentioned. Mostly the points are on the outside of the wrist at the base of the hand where the wrist bends as well as between the two arm bones about 2 or 3" from the wrist. Also, the area just below the ankle bones on both sides are insomnia points. One thing I read in that book is that if you have any energy blockage, the points often hurt as it does in me and is how I find them.

I use lavender and rose oil at night, melatonin, and any herbal tea. I like the sleepy time teas. Lavender, rose peddles, chamomile, passion flower, and many more flowers and herba are relaxing. I also meditate on the most overwhelming days.

Lavender is great. Also, Passion Flower I found is good, it helps relieve stress and therefore is calming. I have found that to work for me.
Now, I do take a prescription as well, but as far as the natural stuff - this does help.

Well, I am still sleeping fitfully. I guess I "need" to be on Seroquel for my auditory hallucinations yet i puts me to sleep, yet something gives me fitful dreams. Also, frequent urination at night may disturb my sleep, so I am looking at urinary tract supplements. I bought a different herbal supplement online ont recieved yet, but will look into valerian, lavender, and passion flower. also, someone elsewhere suggested marshmallow root tea for urinary. Well, hope all this helps?

Anyone have trouble staying asleep... OR getting back to sleep after early A.M. awakenings? Any ideas on that? I keep thinking that there is something adrenal in my inability to return to sleep.

Good luck to all of us.

I read in an article on menopause and insomnia that sometimes you can't get back to sleep because your body temp is too high. That often happens to me even though I don't feel like I'm having a hot flash. I have to let myself get cold and then I can often get back to sleep in a warm bed.

I find L-tryptophan helpful. Also, I can sleep without my white noise machine!!! No birds, no way!!! Also, keeps the tinnitus as bay.
