Affirmations

Every book/website/source that I've found have said the best way to combat a low self esteem are daily affirmations.
I have had a hard time being creative in this so grabbed a canned one I found on a website:
"I am a worthwhile person."
What are some of yours?

When I try to say affirmations I start to feel like I'm lying to myself, and because of that I stop doing that. How can affirmations help if they manifest something you don't believe in. -

"I'm loveable, i'm confident, i'm a child of God and i am loved" -

It depends on the situation. If it's that I don't feel loved, I remind myself of everyone who loves me. If it's that I'm feeling upset that I haven't found a job yet, I remind myself that somewhere out there is the perfect job for me and when I finally get it, it will be worth the wait. I also remind myself of job situations where it seemed that people really wanted me to work for them. -

Hi bfarlow,
When I too researched positive affirmations I thought it was kind of silly and that it wouldn't help but, repetition is apart of it. I wrote down positive affirmations on a whiteboard hanging on my bedroom wall next to the doorway where I see it EVERYDAY. I read it everyday, even when I don't feel like it:
"I deserve to be happy, I deserve to be loved, I am doing my best." -

There are some different thoughts on whether affirmations are effective. In my opinion and experience affirmations work best if you don't have a major conflicting belief rooted in emotion. Any kind of idea or thought you have that is combined with an emotional response becomes about 1 million times more powerful for you. Why? Because your neurology responds to emotions and not just thoughts or words.
The best thing in my opinion is to let go of the crap beliefs that aren't helping you and use affirmations to help you install new ones.
