I think that many people with learning disabilities can have mental health problems and behavioral problems.

Some are have the same root cause as the learning disability such as autism, ADD and bipolar disorder.

Other problems such as depression, low self esteem and an inferiority complex arise out of all the shit we had to put up with from other people while we were growing up just for being different.

These last set of problems we could well have done without and are not our fault but the fault of the often narrow minded and intolerant society we live in.

We need to stick together and support each other as much as we can.

    Regards Simon

You deserve to be happy, you are doing the best you can, when you have had so many things to put up with.

It is simply adding insult to injury that there are people who want to make your life more difficult for you.

I have just started a group in the dyslexia support group called positive mental attitude for dyslexics you are welcome to join.

Sexyerica, don't look at others, look at your self because only you matter in your world. I know it is so very hard to not let all the comments effect you. But you just gotta tell your self "I'm smart, and I matter and I don't care what anybody else thinks of me". It is the positive self talk we need to do each day in order to even get through it. take it day at a time hon.
And I echo SimonM when he says that "you deserve to be happy".

grEEnT makes a good point Sexyerica, one technique is to use positive affirmations. Try sayng positive things to yourself every day like.

I have many new friends on DS
I am doing the best that I can
I am finding out how I can do better
    I am loved

And finally they say not to use negative words in positive affirmations but I make an exception for the rebel cry.

I won't let the bastards grind me down

    Hope this helps, regards Simon

awww....... I'm sorry life has been so tough sexyerica. I agree- some people don't realise what a hard time we have coz they just don't understand. The only thing you can do now is look at the positive things and look to the future.... try and forget all the past things. Its the only way to make progress!

I like what simon said........ knowing your loved and have friends on DS is the best thing ever. We're here for you!

yes, it is very true about our society today. no one seems to understand what its like to have it. I've been bullied all through school and still at work today. I suffer from depression and low self-esteem. The comments I've gotten from other people have always been hurtful and it is really hard not to let it effect you. Thank you for the tip you guys, I will try to find something positive to say every single day.

RIGHT ON SIMON!!! LETS ALL STICK TOGETHER!!!

and you know, maybe it would help people a bit better if we actually had "local" support groups...and not have to go so far if we wanted to go to CHADD or other organizations meetings...Just a suggestion...anyone else agree?..

Welcome
