Memory............

Posted on 04/19/08, 06:35 am
Do some of you find you have really good memory for some things??? Like for me I have a really good memory for films........ I can remember random qoutes from films, but not the names of the poeple in it!! I can remember how the music goes in the film too- tis kinda freaky!! I seem to have like a section of my brain saved for films only and it remembers way more than other people do!! I can allways connect stuff people to say to a quote from a film or a song. Kinda amusing really!!! Especially as I have a really short auditory memory its a bit confusing :D what about you guys??? anything you find you remember better than other things? lots of love xxx

Wow, that is different musicblone. But very interesting. Thanks so much for sharing. I think for me numbers are easy to remember such us phone numbers and dates. When I do my flash cards, I put a number on eacho one of them, one that just pops in to my mind, and then when I have to recall something, I automatically associate it with taht particular number. hugs to you too

I don't have a good short-term memory, but I have a decent long term memory for interactions with others, words and ideas.

Like others here I do not have a good short term memory. I think this is connected with the fact that it is hard for me to organise my thoughts.

When I am able to organize my thoughts and put every thing in a coherent structure I can make my memory in that area very good. I think this is because I am setting up my memory of these things for long term storage.

I guess the problem is that it is too much effort to invest time and effort in something which is so short term, a shopping list for example.

For me the problems with remembering can and do have very bad consequences both in work and in my personal finacial situation.

I tell people that I really have a chronic problem with short term memory but people don't believe me, they think I am just making excuses for being lazy.

Does anybody else feel like this?

I so have this problem too simon! My friends know that its coz of my dyslexia- when things get really bad I joke and say I've got a gold fish memory and they understand.

But some people do blame me and say its coz I'm lazy and not organised enough and to stop coming up with excuses. The problem with being a musician is you don't really have room to forget things and be disorganised coz there are gonna be other people out there who are more efficient then you and more reliable and they'll get the jobs. I guess thats why some people worry so much that I forget things easily.

how does you short term memory affect you at work? maybe I can help :)

wow .. my daughter has problems remembering things that has to do academic in school. They told me she has a short term memory problem that her brain don't know where to store information. But I don't understand cause if it has soemthing to do that she enjoys .. she remembers if forever .. her organizing in horrible. The school is trying to help her on it but it just doesn't work and she tells me that she don't know why she's like the way she is with it.

I don't think there is a person that has good both the long and short term memory. Does she have ADD or something along those lines perhaps?? I have it and I have a hard time with short term memory just because of it. I don't pay attention at times, and therefore I don't take the time to try to put it into long term memory.
Also, you manchioned that she does remember things when she likes them. I do the same thing. I love history from around 1945, and math. BEcause I enjoy it, I remember anything I learn about it. I dont' have to take the time to learn it, it just stays with me.
When it comes to other things, I don't remember it. The things we don't like, or don't enjoy, we tend to push away, or do last. We dont' take time for them unless it's critical for us to know it; example, when there is serious consequences we know we will have to deal with in the future.
That's just my explanation from the observations and experciences I've had.
    Hope it makes sense.

I do the same thing. It's kind of funny. I can remember my elementary school days and what happened, my friends names, my teachers names, and my middle school days. I can even remember my kinder garden days. However I can't remember what I talked to someone about 3 days ago.
At work I've been accused of being a liar because my boss doesn't believe that I can remember what she told me 3 weeks ago, but I can't remember what I did with something a few days ago. I totally agree with you greet.
I tend to remember things that I like better and tend to push away things I don't enjoy.

Welcome
