Step Three--Turning it over

Posted on 07/13/08, 06:08 pm
.....taken from NA Step Working Guides, pg 27.........
-----The principle of commitment is the culmination of the spiritual process of Step Three. Making the decision to "turn it over", over and over again, even when our decision doesn't seem to be having any positive effect, is what this step is all about. We can practice the spiritual principle of commitment by reaffirming our decision on a regular basis and by continuing to take action that gives our decision substance and meaning--for instance, working the rest of the steps.

    For me, this paragraph brings to mind a whole bunch of the lessons I've learned in recovery;
    -----I can't do it alone
-----I must learn to have faith.
    -----I must learn to trust.
-----I must continue to work at my recovery, on a regular basis.
-----I must take action to promote my recovery.
    -----Nothing changes if nothing changes.
-----It works if I work it.
-----I cannot fail until I stop trying.
    -----There is ALWAYS hope.
    -----I am NEVER alone.
-----There are many, many things over which I have no control whatsoever.
-----My solution lies within a set of spiritual principles.
-----I'm never finished with recovery, it is an on-going process.
hmmmmm.......they sure did put a lot of wisdom into these three sentences.....like most of this program, I've learned, there's always something new for me to learn, always another step I can take toward improving myself.......it keeps getting better and better.

Step# 3 - made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of this Power of our own understanding.
I am willing to do whatever it takes to stay away from that first bet. Working the Steps is part of whatever it takes, they're also a beautiful new way of approaching life for me. I'm enjoying the steps :) So making the decision to turn my will and life over to my Higher Power wasn't a difficult one for me to make. I know I'm making it sound easy, but it's not, at least not for me. Making the decision was easy, but actually living the decision on a day to day basis, isn't always easy for me. I'm just beginning to open up to the miracle that is my Higher Power, so sometimes I forget to let go of the things I have no control over, to give them to the care of this Power of my own understanding. But little by little, I'm getting better at doing it.

Welcome
