Step Three--Commitment

Posted on 07/13/08, 04:57 pm
What have I done recently that demonstrates my commitment to recovery and to working a program? (For example: Have I taken a service position in The Fellowship? Have I agreed to sponsor another recovering addict? Have I continued to go to meetings no matter what I was feeling about them? Have I continued to work with my sponsor even after he or she told me an unpleasant truth or gave me some direction I didn't want to follow? Did I follow that direction?

I like this one -- Commitment is everything in healing of oneself. Over the past 10 1/2 months I have given the word commitment a lot of power in my life and it has paid off. My fellowshiping is right here at DS which has proved to be a life saver for me. I really feel that the process though slow in coming has been valuble to me in accepting myself as being human, forgiving myself and believing in myself that change would happen.
Talking to everyone here was everything to me and though I do not connect everyday life before I still know that when I do that connection reaffirms my Commitment. LOL and Hugs

Step# 3 - made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of this Power of our own understanding.
And then the question: What have I done recently that demonstrates my commitment to recovery and to working a program?
Answer: I've been doing many things over and over again since the beginning of my recovery on a daily basis, coming to DS is one of them. Recently I've quit smoking, I guess you could say it's a recent commitment to my new, healthier way of thinking and living. My heart is opening up to new ideas about my future, but I am still more focused on one day at a time. I don't have a sponsor, yet. I haven't been to a GA meeting in a while, however, I still firmly believe I'm in recovery. Getting into the why I haven't been to a GA meeting in a while is probably another topic. I don't want to go into that here. I love working these steps!

My commitment to recovery consists of going to GA meetings when I don't want to go, don't feel like going; finding a true friend in the program to meet with regularly and discuss issues which may impede recovery; reading books on addiction, 12 step programs, and recovery; visiting online chats and reading message boards to gain knowledge and use the wisdom of the recovered gamblers; thinking daily of where I am in recovery, where I need to be and how to get there; staying away from situations and people that could create in me the urge to gamble; meditating and spending quiet time with my thoughts.

What Have I done today for my recovery? This is a vital question and I need it blazed into my forehead, when I let my guard down - this is when the danger comes. So today i chose to do some work on me. I chose to work on my mind, body and spirit. To help the balance in my life. Firstly my mind - understanding more about my addiction but more importantly recovery - the things I don't understand once again surrendering them over to God. Secondly my body - being fit and healthy. Thirdly Spiritually - coming to understand and getting to know my God. Letting him work in my life daily.
I have one more commitment and that is to my fellow CG in service, to encourage to listen and to learn from them.

Welcome
