Is the Man with the feathered hat and flag a Shaman? Is the woman standing to his left an elder? The beadwork is amazing. And I love the blanket that the woman with the child is wearing.

Those are my friends, Karl and his wife Nancy.....both Lakota. His headdress indicates he is a dog soldier. Dog soldiers would stake themselves out on a tether in battle and fight from that spot until he was dead or the enemy were dead. If they were the only survivor of a battle, then they would have to stay tethered there for 4 days before they could cut themselves lose. Both of them are elders.
