A gorgeous morning today. Temp was about 75 degrees when I first got up and it's only supposed to be 108 today. But this weekend is gonna be ugly...thunder storms moving in. They will drop the temps into the low 100s but the humidity will skyrocket....like swimming through the air. Palm Springs got almost an inch of rain in an hour the other night....I know to most of you that doesn't seem like much but you have to remember our average rain fall is under 5 inches a year...and it closed roads and flooded several businesses and destroyed a few homes. Some roads still are closed due to up to 2 inches of mud across them. With the silica in the sand here, the rain just runs across the top of the soil instead of soaking in carrying with it any dirt that is laying on top along with the plants it grabs. We don't actually have to get rain in the desert to get the flooding. If the mountains around us get heavy rain, we get the water. Where I am...opposite end of the valley from Palm Springs....I am stranded if we get the water. We have no bridges over the washes down here so the water just takes out the roads with it. I have to depend on someone with a 4 wheel drive to get back and forth to town. And since we are so far off the beaten path, our roads are the last ones to get fixed.

I tell you what....Mother Earth is on a rampage. She is finally objecting to humanity's continued misuse and abuse of her. She is shaking and spewing fire, creating droughts which bring the bad fires, flooding us out, and trying to blow us off. Then we are trying to shoot ourselves in the foot with our own politics. I better get off my soap box before I really get wound up.
