Sweet lavender --- nasal/sinus congestion --- put a small amount in a tissue and crush. Take a whiff periodically. It will help open up clogged passages as well as give you a touch of aroma therapy.

Bear or Osha root --- sore throat --- chew on the root. It will numb the throat and stop that tickle that causes a cough.

This is a start.....lets have some of yours now!

For insect bites/stings --- a baking soda paste (made with baking soda and just enough water to make a paste) placed directly on the sting and let it dry. As it dries, it draws the poison out. If this doesn't calm down the sting, this can be re-applied as many times as necessary.

Gonna date myself here.....when I was a kid, instead of baking soda, whoever was either chewing tobacco or "dippin' snuff" would just put moistened tobacco on your sting. It did work well but god only knows how much nicotine got into our systems. BUT the baking soda paste works just as good as the tobacco.

A flax seed poultice will draw out splinters.

Yeast infections; Dip a tampon in plain yogurt and insert it 3 times a day (for me this is a lifesaver since I am allergic to all the products they have currently available) and also take acidophilis orally.

Not sure if this is considered natural, but a good hang-over remedy is a glass of club soda (my friend uses plain water) with a dash of bitters. Then continue to hydrate the rest of the day.

    Ick....glad I quit drinking. LOL

Eating yogurt works well for yeast infections too. And drinking cranberry juice. They both replace the good bacteria that keeps the urinary tract healthy.

Water rings on your good wood furniture??? Old English Lemon Oil furniture polish and salt --- put a few drops of lemon oil on the ring and sprinkle in some salt. Rub around the ring with your finger. You will be amazed. If its not too old or too deep, it will take that circle right out and won't hurt the furniture at all. I was concerned about scratches from the salt but they aren't there. Then just wipe clean.

A few more "old" ones for you...

    Hangover prevention ~

    1. Eat a good meal before you start your evening.
    2. Drink lots of water before hand.
    3. Before you lay down take 2 extra strength Tylenol....3 if you are a big person.
    4. Take a big jug of water to bed with you. Every time you wake up, take a big drink of water.

This worked pretty good for me in my drinking days. Of course, there were always those times when I would get stupid and break my routine and paid big time for it. Now that I think about it....probably more times than naught. LOL

Cleaning Bare Wood Floors ~ (not many of these today, but good for porches)

Save all your coffee grounds. Just before you are ready to sweep the floor, you moisten the coffee grounds and spread them around on the floor. The coffee will give the floor a nice patina and the damp grounds will get down into the cracks and attract all the dust and dirt. It works great!

    Cleaning Glass

    1. Newspaper is great for cleaning glass. Doesn't leave streaks and holds up better than paper towels and is lots cheaper.
    2. Vinegar and water mixed about 50/50 makes a great window cleaner. You can even wash car windows sitting in the sun without worrying about streaks.
    3. This one is fairly new but is till a good trick. You have problems with bathroom mirrors fogging up??? Use your room spray to clean the mirror. It is a wonderful cleaner and will keep the mirror from fogging up.

Removing a hard water ring in an old toilet without damaging the toilet. Take a piece of pumace stone and scrub. Guaranteed to remove the ring without scratching the porcelain. I've moved into houses that had years of build up and after a few scrubbings manage to get it all off. It was a trick that a plumber taught me.

OK, guys.....you are falling down on your end of this. Just kidding.....but I really would be interested in learning a few of your ideas.

Here another one....good for summer time.

For what we affectionately call "crotch rot" use corn starch as a powder clears it up and makes it comfortable enough to walk.

Corn starch also makes a good baby powder.

I clean the floors with water, some vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil. My son has alllergies so no chemicals allowed.
I scrub the shower with baking soda paste. I was just recommended banking soda as a great toothpaste too.
I use rose hip oil on my face as a moisturiser.
A strong head massage gets rid of my awful headache better than pain killers (but need someone to do it for me)
