Stupid Man

Posted on 06/20/08, 06:28 pm
Hello>>I had spoken a little bit with Basketmoon (hugs sis) My man was given for the forst time, insulin while in the hospital for pnuemona,a couple weeks ago. Everytime he "sneaks away" to get drunk, whatever,he winds up in the emergency room several times, either gout,or for his drinking somehow. He just recieved his meter to check his blood sugar.Did he open the box? NO....he is out again drinking himself to oblivion.I will not chase him, chastize or argue,WHY? because he has chosen to slowly kill himself. Its sad, pathetic to see this over+over again, and again....He knows he is in danger each time he sneaks off.Anyone who takes medication, especially for high blood pressure, and steroids for breathing should NOT drink. He is on oxygen 24/7 he will sit in the bar where everyone smokes. He knows better. It seems to me,i am doing the right thing, just taking care of myself+Rabbit. You cannot drag a horse (jackass) and make them do exactly what YOU want them to do,so LET them alone, sooner or later, they might get IT>>Or simply leave this earth>>>>

You can only do so much for someone else but in order for your help to serve a purpose, they have to be willing to help themselves. I have given up being the nag/bitch/whatever you wanna call it because Bear won't take care of his own health. I just insist he keep his life insurance up to date.

I feel for you, agila.......my thoughts and prayers are with you. Its not easy watching someone slowly killing themselves....especially when it is someone you love.

    Gentle huggles....

I'm so sorry - I've been there. At some point I had to decide whether to choose to stay, which meant it was my choice and I had to give up my bitterness, or to leave. I finally chose to leave. I couldn't sit silently and watch him killing himself, along with killing the love of his family.

For what it' worth, my only regret now is that I didn't do it sooner. I had a son who was watching all of this, and I truly believe he would be better off if I had gotten him out of that environment sooner.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Blessings,

    Sue

No one can make these kinds of choices for anyone else; my STX quit smoking once, and was doing well at it. Then, we had an argument, and he went back to smoking, saying that he had only quit because I wanted him to! He has to quit for himself, not for anyone else! It is hard to watch someone be so self-destructive, but you cannot live their life for them; they are the arbiter of their own destiny. All you can do is protect yourself.
