hi, my wife has a diagnosis of rapid cycling, we had to fight to get this diagnosis and she was only diagnosed with it about 6 months ago. I have been with her 7 years and therefore has always been some form of cycling, but these would be months apart, however about 12 months ago it started getting faster and when we finally got the diagnosis she could cycle from really low to really really high and back down again within 1 hour. One minute like you say she would be really low, crying, not wanting to do anything, the next minute laughing and on a high, not able to sit still or concentrate on anything.

Like I said we got the diagnosis 6 months ago, she has been on Sodium Valporate which has levelled things out. However she was put under some stress recently (family and exams) and this accelerated things again. They have levelled out slightly, but she is still going up and down. Today she woke in pain (has arthritis) and really low, got up, still low, within 1 hour, she was high, cleaning, tidying not able to sit still despite the pain.

So yes, much like what you have described. Your not along out there, if you haven't already got the diagnosis, fight for it, and get treatment, there are lots of drugs out there that will help to stabilise.

I've been doing a mood chart for my counselor who has concluded that I suffer from rapid cycling. Sometimes I'm not sure what to put for my mood on a particular day because it's changed several times.

P.S.--There's no rhyme nor reason to it--one day or even several days I can be in the same basic mood, another I'll go through several changes.

This sounds like rapid cycling to me. I have had similar experiences when not on my meds. My moods could even change from hour to hour or faster at times. What are you thinking of taking for this?

Welcome
