can anyone out there talk to me about eating disorders in older women? I am 46 years old and have been struggling with this for about a year and a half. Some of it is not 'classic' symptoms, but mostly i can identify with what i have read on this site about it. just seems weird that it is happening to me now. I am 4 years into struggle with depression, insomnia and mood swings. Latest is diagnosis of bipolar2.

I'm only 17... But there is no age limit to eating disorders! Perhaps your eating disorder is just your way of gaining control in a chaotic life? A way to deal with the stress of your depression, insomnia and mood swings? If you want more info on it, Google might no more or perhaps you could talk to your doctor about it? -

I am 39 and have been anorexic for a little over a year. I also have depression and bipolar 2. I would be happy to talk to you about our common struggles. The doctors have told me that you can develope an eating disorder at any age. I've also read that it is getting more common for older women to develope them. I've been doing some reading about eating disorders and it is hard to find some that is directed towards older women. Although a lot of the issues are the same at any age. You will find that you can get great support here regardless of your age. I'll say a prayer for you. -

i'm 44 and only been anorexic for about 1 yr. i agree that it may have something to do with control. it probably doesn't help that i am a single parent of teenagers so my life also feels quite teenage at times although i am slimmer than all the teenagers that come round and now only fit clothes made for children around 9-11 yrs old!! -

I am 29 and have an ed and bipolar mania. My psychiatrist told me it is very normal for people with depression to have ed. Mine has gotten so bad I am going into the hospital this week. It is a dual program for the bipolar and the ed. Please get some help before you end up in the hospital. -

I am 45 and have had this problem since 17. It's been really bad and it's been OK. I have tried counseling and liked it but there isn't any available where I live now -- no specialists, anyway. I have been on Prozac since I was 33 and it seems to help.
My problem now is that I have three girls, 14, 6 & 6 and I am a horrible role model. One of my twins is now asking if she's fat. She doesn't want to eat very often and she is really small (33lbs). How can I pass this on to such an innocent little girl? I hate me for this.
