I'm surprised the Doc didn't send her home with pain meds. Sometimes they use a Duragesic Patch, I believe, they wanted to give one to my cat after her spay. That's a pricy drug, and was surprised they gave it out, esp since a controlled substance!
I have not needed any pain medicine for my dog. I'd get a hold of the Vet and find out what to do.

Tramadol?

Anyone had their dog on Tramadol for pain? My 14 yr old had surgery today and seems to e miserable. I gave her some of this medicine at 1:00am but she still seems uncomfortable. Calling surgeon but just wondering if anyone else has used it and noticed how it worked?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, the vet gave her the tramadol. I just feel like it wasn't helping fast enough. She was much better last night. We still have some issues but I'm trying to take some precautions. The vet removed a mass from her behind near her anus. The sutures are so close to her anus she is messing on them when she goes to the bathroom. I pray she does not get an infection. Its hard to keep it clean since you don't know if any germs got into the wound. Ugh! -

Uh, I wonder if having a BM is bothersome for her, depending on where the Sutures are at. It would be good to give her something to soften her stool, so it's not hard. I don't know what that might be, but if you think that might be an issue for her, you might call and see what you can give her to soften her stool while she is healing.
Yeah, hard to keep clean...maybe try some flushable wipes to clean the area after she comes in. -

Great idea! She hasn't gone yet except a little messing on herself the day of the surgery due to the anesthesia still in her system. They said it may be a few days before she goes. I made an appointment with her regular vet (not the surgeon) to check it out and clean it up if it needs better cleaning. I didn't want to be poking at the stitches but its just an awkward place for them. She is on an antibiotic too.
Thanks for the good advice!
