Congratulations on quiting. When I was quiting, I found that going for walks with my friends or just listening to my ipod and going out and walking the park really helped. Drink alot of water so that you feel full and it is good for you too. Set a date for yourself to lose 5 pounds that when you do it, buy yourself a pair of shoes or a music CD or whatever you fancy. Good luck and have fun

When you quit smoking two things happen. First, your metabolism slows as the stimulation of the nicotine ceases. This causes you to burn less calories to simply exist. Second, you tend to eat more for a couple of reasons: to satisfy the hand-mouth habit and to provide the brain a substitute stimulation - carbs instead of nicotine. So it is possible you have replaced one addiction with another. If your diet is carb-heavy, switch to one with more protein. Also, if you are not exercising, start doing so. Something as simple as a walk around the block is a great way to begin.

Thank you for that information, Shevie. I didn't know quitting slowed your metabolism down. I'm getting ready to quit soon, & I'll keep that in mind when I do. Christy, I know you can get the weight off. It might take some time, but if you start now, you're half-way there. Keep up the good work.

Actually, 2alone, smoking artificially increases your metabolism. When you quit, it slows to normal. OK, that's picky syntax, I know. I'm a Virgo, I can't help myself. ~blush~
