Is this a binge??
Posted on 06/02/08, 10:24 am
Sooo I just ate and I think it may have been borderline binge, but I'm not sure. I got back from the gym, was hungry so I ate:
-about 7 strawberries, 2 handfuls of cherries, 2 handfuls of blueberries
-3 large spoonfuls of all natural peanut butter
-1 (140 cals) skinny cow ice cream sandwhich
I dont feel super full or gross like I do after a normal binge. I ate it regular speed and enjoyed each bite. But I also know thats a ton of calories. (I only worked out for 1.5 hours.. though I have another 1.5 hour figure skating practice tonight)
What do you think??

yeah, doesn't sound like a binge to me. But it's subjective, I think part of the disorder is the intention of what you are putting in your mouth. Also, obviously you work out a lot, so you need to take that into account when thinking about how much you're eating. If you're doing three hours of exercise in one day, then, I'd say modestly you could probably tame in at least an extra 500 cals, probably more. So, if this was you're in between meal snack, then it sound slike it's fine to me. Now, if you felt really bad about eating this food and that lead you to eat even more, then you would be much more likely to have binge disorder. It sounds irrational - it is! - but eating more, binging, when you're feeling already 'fat' or 'unhealthy' or whatever is a characteristic of this disorder. -

Definately NOT pro-ana... I just have trouble knowing what a binge is... sometimes its obvious... (like the time I lierally ate a bowl of ice cream, and about 15 cookies :0 .....) but I just wasn't sure.. because that eating felt mindless. -

Mindless eating that's what it was....
usually a person doesn't need to question if it's a binge or not--after UNCONTROLLABLE eating there's an intense feeling of guilt, shame, pain (both physical and mental). It's an emotional thing as much as it's a physical aspect.... it's sometimes not how much you eat but how you feel--the loss of control and the depression after -

Forget about calories and fat, skinny people eat lots of calories and fat the only difference is they only eat when they are hungrey and stop when they are full. So if you were hungrey when you ate that and you stopped when you were full then it was not a binge and you enjoyed it and by the way peanut butter is very good for you, yumm!!
