Blu's Pull Free A Thon
Posted on 05/12/08, 09:44 pm
Hi everyone!! Relatively new to Daily Strength and just joined the group. I'm trying to find as many outlets as I can to keep myself on track here, lol. I've suffered from trich for 20 yrs and done some pretty hefty damage to my scalp, so much so that I'm afraid that some of it is permanent. At this momment in time I am doing everything in my power to try and repair what I have done. And putting every little bit of faith that I have back into myself and my ability to do this.
So starting off my Pull Free A Thon with this group I'm at: 14 days

17 days pull free!
I'm not exactly sure how I did it. I just decided that I needed to care enough about myself to try and control the one thing in my life that has always controlled me. It may be the combination of meds I'm on in conjuction with bi-weekly therapy, or it could just be that I've had enough after being a slave to trich for 20 years. If anything, I know that the therapy and meds are helping significantly. -

Congratulations for 18 days pull free! You're slidin' into the 3 week mark and then it's a hop skip and a jump to a month. Keep it up and be strong, keep working it! I'm curious to know if you are doing anything different with your hands or just letting them relax. The hand issue is the hardest for me, bcs I have all this excess energy and need to redirect it. -

19 days pull free
shebepo- I'm trying to do a lot of differnt things with my hands. I've got stress balls in all the places where I know I'm more likely to pull. When I'm in front of the computer my kitten is usually there with me, so I occupy myself with petting and playing with him.
The hardest thing for me has been the dreaded tweezers. I'm forcing myself to keep up with my eyebrow grooming and stopping after doing the necessary plucking is the hardest bit I've had, but somehow I manage to set them down and walk away.
At this point though anything I can get my hands on to occupy them when I'm not busy is helping. Although, I'm pretty sure if I'm not careful I'm gonna end up with rub burn on my forehead :) -

Hi and welcome to the site. It seems like you are off to an amazing start already. Congrats on your success so far.
I also have pulled for twenty years and was really afraid that I had done alot of permanant damage. For the first three months the hair was really slow to come in, especially in certain places. I was petrified it would never grow. But all of a sudden (after 130 days) it started to fill in. So there is hope, but be patient and realize it takes some time. Also read the regrowth facts post (on this group site and the main group site) that crazychick posted, it will answer alot of your questions.
Again, welcome. It is so good to have you here and be proud of your amazing success.

22 days and still going strong. The rub burn on the forehead isn't going to be a problem anymore; I was bending over to pick up something at work and slammed my head on the counter, lol. Now it hurts to rub my forehead. And as for my cat, crzychick, he'd probably take a finger off if I tried anything with him. He's just my cuddle buddy and loves to be pet, he's a heathen :) -

WOO HOO!!! 24 days and I even went and got my hair cut tonight. It's shorter than it's been in years and I love it. My hairdresser even said that the growth I'm getting in the areas I can't see is substantial. So all in all a great night :) -

Wow! 26 days! There is life after trich! Isn't it great to have this site to help in our struggle against this nightmare. As the days add up, we get stronger and the urges subside. It's a battle worth fighting because the rewards of not pulling are so satisfying.
Keep up the good work!

You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Oh what a relief. This board is for people that are serious about learning all they can about Trichotillomania. Yep that big old long word that is the bane of our world. Trich is tricky. But with knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. So lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.
