Fellow Atheists - Unite?

Not sure how to say this.
The bottom line questions is, why do so many atheists think that other atheists also have the same ideas about various other subjects just because they have that one thing in common?
I would think that a population who has a lot of anger directed toward them would be more understanding towards others. Especially fellow atheists even if they don't share the same views on other issues.
Has anyone ever been yelled at or gotten into a heated argument with another atheist because of a difference of opinion? Where is almost became physical! I would think we'd be more open minded or at least willing to listen without getting so antagonistic.
Well, it has happened to me and I don't know why anyone would be to violent when someone is only giving his opinion.
How would you deal with that situation?

It's getting nasty again.
On another group of atheists I gave some opinions that most others didn't share. Rather than ask me to explain my points or offer counter arguments they call me names and refuse to reply. How intellectual is that? LOL
Ok, it's true I said some things about certain groups of people but I also said that was my impression from past experiences. If the other atheists in the group didn't like what I said they still should, IMO be a little more understanding and not get so upset, when someone is honest enough to say what they thing.
It seems they only like those who agree and keep their mouth shut if they don't. What's the point of being in a group of supposedly intelligent people who try to censor what is said? -

I don't remember who said it but I once heard that trying to get atheists to gather is akin to herding cats! -

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember hearing something like that years ago. LOL, my fellow atheists here in California are not so tolerant of anyone who doesn't agree with them and most seem to be of one mind. But then, maybe that's just a California thing, haha. Californians in general are kind of weird. -

well, i suppose most people must assume atheists, by nature, are more intelligent and more liberal. i would be surprised to see an atheist who supported mccain for instance. And I think it's so hard to find people we can relate to on atheism that we become really disappointed when that person can't become a friend because of other reasons or that they're not a true kindred spirit. -

Actually it's the other way around, haha. More intelligent people are atheists. Hum! Maybe that's the same thing, Not sure how to say it but one trait of the highly gifted (IQ) is of course to question. So maybe that's the way to put it, not all atheists are intelligent but those with high IQs are atheists. ?
AND, hi there ... I support McCain, the sign is still up in my front yard. I will never respect that O'Bamba idiot. He lies for one thing and his 'take from the rich' attitude is SO anti-American it's sickening. I've always thought Americans were stupid so I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this awful turn of events and what will be the further downfall of a once great nation. That disgusting person will never be my president. In fact now I believe we have no president for at least 4 years or until the death of this horrid person. LOL, but then we'll have another moron in that office. Guess he planned that well, haha.
Whoops sorry, it's just that I'm so upset that I get physically ill seeing his face and thinking about what's going to happen. But you see, that's the example of how atheists don't agree. -

The beauty of being "Atheistic" is that it's a religious feild that's not a religious belief. Beliefs are for everyone: I believe that science is a prominent part of Western Civilization's success. Hitler believed Germany was the greatest nation ever. The Pope believes in one god.
The contractual point of being an atheist is that yea: since there is NO organization, it's more of a personal choice to say "hey, I have an open mind about things and..." (from there, you can put anything). Even if you believe in a god or multiple gods, you could still be considerred an atheist (in some form or another)
But your statement isn't false: it's very oxymoronic to say "Atheists, UNITE!", much as you would very seldomely hear a true Christian say "Everything is greater than God" -

OrdinaryWorld, (btw I like that name), not sure who you are talking to but the statement at the top of this page is 'Atheists Unite?' ... with a question mark. The point is that they are not of one mind, just because they have the one disbelief in common. I was wondering why so many do, from my experience, think that we have the same thoughts on politics and other ideas.
I do like the way you think though.
