Fighting back!!!
Posted by GillianneW - 05/14/08, 05:05 amHi Guys!!!!!
I hope you and your children are all doing well.
The fight against bullying, prejudice and stereotyping of our Aspie's is never ending and if we're going to surmount it we must educate the rest of society.
We all know that children can be cruel, but so too can adults.
It's time that the education of Autistic Spectrum conditions went world wide. Education by people who live with Aspergers everyday. It's all very well going to college or university to learn about it but if you don't have the experience of living with it I don't think your qualification means very much.
As parents, kids, siblings, relatives and friends of people on the spectrum we are the ones who have the hands on experience that can never be learned from a book.
I'm considering taking an Aspergers roadshow round Scotland. To schools etc... to teach people about living with, interacting with and socialising with Aspie's.
What do you think?

We've added new hugs! Send some love to your friends now!

I think it's a great idea, but a mammoth task! How would you go about it? Down here in New Zealand we are fighting the same battle, coming up with the same obstacles you are facing and I must admit that educating people around the world would be very beneficial. I agree that educating in Universities etc is great but after you take away the theory involved, they can't comprehend the practical side of Aspergers. That is seeing AS children/people on a daily basis. So yes I think it is a great idea. HUGS JO.
