paleothic caveman diet

I have read and researched countless articles and papers on this diet that is very similiar to the Swank Diet. I really do believe there is a correlation on what we put in our bodies and MS "syndrome". I have started to make a diary of food intake and my MS symptoms.

I agree that the thinking behind the Swank diet is right. He, after all, has had people successfully on it for 40 years. How is the caveman diet different. Give us a summary. I keep trying to do Swank but have to cook for and feed others so it is hard. This summer I am off and want a good plan.

So its fruit and vegetables, chicken and fish, red meat once a week. Do you cook your vegs or eat them raw?

Swank say only 15 grams a fat but you are probably doing fine by limiting red meat, eggs, and dairy products.

It is a little like Atkins--I mean, no carbs?

Please be careful with NO carbs. LOW carbs is great ie (1/4-1/3 Cup wild rice with dinner is good).
The issues with NOO carbs(Atkins) is two fold for your muscles & body. When you are losing all the weight it is BOTH fat and muscle you are losing. So when you come off the diet 1.) you have lost muscle PLUS you have lost metabolism (muscle needs more energy than fat). 2.)You lose you immune system because you body needs to break down MUSCLE for an amino acid(aa) it uses for fuel..this aa is NOT in fat. This is the reason many times a much older person will break a hip, come down with bronchitis..etc and then die. Their system has no muscle to breakdown to fuel their immune system to attack the invader...you know it seems like if they knew this they could give older people the aa directly to help immune system..hmmm

Anywho..LOTS of fruits, veggies and "white" meats (chick, turk, wild salmon or tailpa(sp) have little Hg) sound good. My kids are very young I have my eldest 3yrs old eating every fruit under the sun and carrots. I am trying to get her to eat more veggies like broccoli, fresh spinich, peas and beans. My youngest(20months) hhhhhh just like his father in eating habits when he was young. He was raised on red meat and potaotos NO fruits or veggies. I have success with a FROZEN blender drink that has apples, pears, strawberries and either spinish or broc. + 2 cups ice and 1-2 tablesppons b. sugar.
Other than this he sometimes eats apples and pears..sometimes. I tried something new yesterday. I took some light mayo, vanilla yogurt and ranch seasoning. Mixed it and put it on some beans and carrots. You know what he had some of BOTH. Then I put just a little tiny bit of sugar on the strawberries and this is the FIRST time he ate two whole strawberries. I figure if I keep "doctoring" his fruits and veggies he'll grow a taste for them. Later I can slowly decrease veggie dip, etc. WHAT a break through!!! I know this is stupid but when your trying to get your kids to eat right..you shout for joy when you make even small strides.

    -Best Wishes to all
