I am often asked if there is a difference between a Ghost and a Spirit. I thought it would be a good idea to explain the differences of these two anomalies. The term "Ghost" is pretty much a generic label used by the lay public & Hollywood when describing those in the after-life. In that both are paranormal in nature, that is where the similarity ends. Ghosts-- A ghost is nothing more than an imprint on time of past events. These events are usually, linked to some sort of tragedy but not always. Battlefields for example, are often habitat-ed by ghosts. Gettysburg, comes to mind of these kind of supernatural phenomena. This type of experience can manifest in many different ways. One could for example, see phantom armies on the battlefields standing at the ready. Or hear things that are out of place such as drums and fifes playing, when there is nobody around to rationally explain the phenomena. The key thing to remember with ghosts, there is NEVER, any interaction with the living. These imprints on time often play out on targeted dates, and can last a very long time. Some, often for hundreds of years, or more. Smells of gun powder are still reported on many battlefields. Another common finding in Gettysburg, is the smell of vanilla, mostly on Baltimore Ave. It is well documented that after the battle of Gettysburg, many of the women of the town would saturate a handkerchief with vanilla, or lilac, to cover there noses with when venturing outside. This was done due to the decomposing bodies that were left in the streets of Gettysburg after the battle was over. Ghost ships, are but yet another example of these imprints on time. These occurrences are also, known as "residual hauntings" by those in the Paranormal community. Personally, I don't like the word haunting. But, it is, what it is, I guess. Spirits--- Unlike the "residual hauntings" mentioned above. Spirits can & will interact with the living. Usually, to deliver a message. Or to try and finish up some unfinished business. And yes, there are Spirits as well in Gettysburg. :) Spirits are the ones we are primarily concerned with in speaking of ADC's. They are the ones who give us such signs. Although, any type of Spirit / Ghost conversation is welcome here. :) So there you have it. :) Please feel free to add your comments and experiences. John
