I believe that museums and collectors have a moral obligation to return and restore all those artefacts that have been plundered and removed over the centuries. What do you think

Hi Les! I won't tell - if you won't! The Arabs were letting the Amonhotep
twins crumble into the rivers! - I'm unsure if we should let the burials be!?

If the artefacts are returned, how can we be sure they are returned to their rightfull resting place. After centuries where was their resting place?

(It may seem sacreligious) but i have to agree with you seathesun
It makes you wonder what other great civilisations -just- 'disappeared'
Has anyone heard about the flooded pre-'historic' kingdoms off the coast of India? Too late now! - I think we 'should' have plundered. Watch your toes! - i'm comin' through with my Vandals (they'll dig up anything - for a purse!)

I actually have personal experience with this... about 12 years ago my mother unearthed a "something" while gardening that looked a lot like an important something I'd seen in a book. Long story made short - it was a hand-made arrow tip made from a piece of rock, probably several centuries old. It wasn't an "unusual" thing to find where we live. The area was first settled by Europeans in early 1700's so for ages before then there were native peoples here. We took it to a museum because the local chief wasn't around. Now, had we known who "rightfully owned" it, sure...I think my mother probably would have done that instead of the museum but when you don't know, what then? Can we ever really be positive something found now did belong to a certain tribe/group/nation or is the best we can do is say it "very likely" or "somewhat possibly" came from this or that...? I don't know... anyone?

    Hi,
And there's 'possesion' being "nine tenths of the law" - here. I'd 'return' something if it's heir and owner - on being shown - recognised the rights. (but i'd confiscate - a 'nemes head-piece' from an idiot) lol.

Another one hits the shops! You wouldnt judge a book by its cover Nefertiti or not. Maybe you agree with orthodox prices ...and maybe you dont. Lets find the ancient east for ourselves!
