Advice:
Paxil to Cymbalta? Advise, Please!

I am finding the 20 mg of Paxil is helping the anxiety attacks, but am not real happy with the Paxil. I really don't want to increase dosage daily that I take plus, I have gained some weight and am getting very bummed. It seems those who take Cymbalta seem to like it and do not experience weight gain. Anyone gone from one to the other? How does Cymbalta work for you? Thanks for any info.

" I am on Paxil.

20 mg of regualr Paxil made me gain weight.

I am on 50 mg of Paxil CR now and the weight gain is because of the dosage change...it is coming off again.

I have no info for Cymbalta. I don't want to change...now that the weight is coming back off, I am sticking to my PaxilCR which I love. "

" Thanks, Snowy! Is PaxilCR different than regular Paxil? And if so, and you upped the dosage, you started to get back to normal weight? Why does Paxil cause weight gain? I am not eating anymore than I had before. Geez "

" I don't like the Cymbalta too much, but it'll do cause I'm out of options :( Nothing else has worked, and no, no weight gain. Effexor worked well for me w/o weight gain, also, but it quit working after 4 or 5 years.

" GoBlue, I went from Paxil to Cymbalta which helps with my chronic back pain and depression. I haven't gained any weight like I did with Paxil. So far, after 4 monthes, it's still effective and I've had no negative side effects. "

" I have only taken Cymbalta, which has a possible side effect of weight loss. Which I need, and don't mind, and so far, have lost almost 10#. A lot of other antidepressants make you gain weight, so if you want to lose, this is a good one to try.
However, it does also make me anxious - self-rocking, and biting the ends of my fingers, but only when I'm on the computer, I don't know why that is, either. Maybe because I am focusing concentration then.
Overall, I like it, though, it seems to do the job it is supposed to. But everybody's experience is a little bit different, and will have different side effects. You won't know yours until/unless you try it. "

" I am on Cymbalta. My doc says it is not as easy to change the dossage like he can Buspar for anxiety. My anxiety is not nearly as bad as it used to be. "

" Goblue...Paxil CR is controlled release. Because the dosage is more even throughout the day, my metabolism isn't affected so harshly.
Paxil causes weight gain because it deals with anxiety. It slows you way down. It also, as a side effect, slows down your metabolism. So even though you're not eating more, what you normally eat is being affected by a much slower digesting metabolism. Step up the exercise or walk a little faster or a little longer. It helps balance out the weight gain until your entire system balances out. "
