McCain linked to private nazi group in Iran-Contra case Presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair. McCain's ties are facing renewed scrutiny after his campaign criticized Barack Obama for his link to a former radical who engaged in violent acts 40 years ago. The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe. The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Chris I think you are right on target. McCain is clawing at Obama while he climbs in the polls and McCain clearly cannot get a grip. I think the election is slipping away from McCain and I think he did it to himself.
What a relief to see swift boating sinking (sorry about the pun). Because this method of character assassination has been so effective in the past and drowned :) John Kerry in 2004 - I think Obama has had no choice but to respond in kind to some degree. Free - I agree with you about the 7 degrees of separation - anyone can be associated with just about anyone/anything if one looks long enough. However, I think it is the sensational aspect of swift boating that gets people's attention and unfortunately it also holds the attention of too many.
