OK as many of you know after my surgery I was having extreme pain in my lower left side where my leg meets my perineal area. When I went in the nurse said my lymph node was either inflamed or swollen. She gave me pain meds and sent me home. Well they didn't work so they called me in a lidocaine patch to try. And that didn't really work well either. I don't know if anyone has ever had one but you wear it for 12 hrsand off for 12 hours. It would only work for maybe an hour. So I called my oncologist. He was a complete ASSH**E to me. I mean he had me in tears told me I was going to be addicted to the pain meds (loratabs 5.5) I have been given stronger stuff for all my other surgeries. and I wasn't doing what he told me to do. I told him yes I was. and He said he wanted to talk to my Ob who I saw because he didn't think I was giving him the whole story.
Well my OB called me back and had me come in to see her so Iwent and the surgery site was fine no infection and healing well. and When she press on my abdmonal area that hurt I screamed out. So she had them do an ultrasound interialy and external. Everything came back fine. So she thinks it is in my bowels, intestanial tract and colon. which would explain why the pain meds were not working. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for monday. Now the day before thanksgiving my site got infected and swollen. I cried everytime I pee. and I cqan not close my legs. MY husband and I have been married a year and I had invitied his family over for Thanksgiving this year so I was up cooking all night and alll morning in pain. When everyone showed up I had on a loose dress so no one could tell I was walking like a cowboy!. And after everyone left I cleaned up , left the kids with my husband and went to the ER. They gave me a antibotic, pain pill, and a lidocaine gel to put on the site and told me when I pee to either sit in a bathtub of water or in a bowel of water to ease the pain ( That is not fun at all!) So now I am just waiting to see what the colonoscopy cames back with and I have to follow up with my ob after the colonoscopy on Monday to check the site again and try to figure out how it got infected. You are right I am to young for all this!!!!! Love ya all And hope all is well with everyone sorry I haven't been on lately but you know how it is. Amanda Posted on 11/24/07, 10:11 am |

Amanda, I'm so sorry. You are really going through an ordeal. Keep looking until they find out what's going on. It sounds terrible. Please let us know.
I really wish you'd find another oncologist. You don't need to be treated that way. Isn't there another in your area? I don't care if he's the best or not. He's obviously not the best if his bedside manner is so poor. Please think about it. I wish there was something I could do for you. I hope they find out what's wrong. Then you can make it better. I'm still praying for you.

You're going through so much! I had a similar experience this summer but turned out it was an infection. Only you can tell when something's not right with your body! If you don't feel you got the best answer keep searching. When I was going through all of this every 3-6 months my family dr was my biggest support. I ended up being referred to a larger city and center where I've been going for 10 years. Since being referred there it's been better until this little stint. How are you now?

The colonscopy came back clean. They are going to do the upper one in January and look at my stomach, glabblader and stuff. The infection is starting to go away. The lidocaine gel they gave me to put directly on the surgery spot to help with the pain until the antibodics kicked in is wonderful I didn't even have to take any pain meds. Which is reaaly great with having the kids and all. I did schedule a second opinion for the 20th of this month with a different oncolgist in a different hospital it is about a 30- to 40 min dive but well worth it if I am going to be treated like a person instead of a problem.

I'm so glad you're getting another opinion. I hope this doctor is nice. I have to travel about that distance to see my oncologist. I had to go even further for my transplant and all the stuff related to that. It's well worth it to find someone who's kind.
