Does your spots get light and then sometimes get dark again? I thought they would get light and stay light. My daughter had a few spots when she was diagnosed and they almost seem to darken up to were you could hardly tell. Then summer came and she got tons of new spots. I am wondering if maybe they will get darker now in the winter? It also seems like these spots are in different places than the old ones. They are all still only on one side of her face and neck. (none on arms and legs) But just in a slightly different position than before.

Hi I have had vitilligo since I was 7 (I'm now 23). My mother developed it when she was 7 aswell. It seemed to appear on me after I had chickenpox. I had it very bad. My sister had it aswell and she also developed some patches on her feet. I have it over 90% of my body but am lucky to be fair skinned. I definately think that the condition is passed on in the genes and is triggered when there is trauma to the immune system. I strongly recommend that you make sure that your daughter wears a high factor sun protection. The uv rays caused my spots to spread, almost like the opposite of tanning. I make sure that I wear factor 50 on my face in the summer, even on skin with pigment. This helps because if my pigmented skin tans it realy shows up the white patches. Also, I noticed that any pigmented skin that is exposed to sun seems to get really tiny white dots that eventually join together to make larger patches. Some of my mothers' patches totally vanished or shrank when she was 20. I havn't been so lucky. The only ones that seemed to dissappear were on my hand but they returned in a slightly different pattern. Maybe your daughter could try a treatement called PUVA. I had it as a child- you stand in a type of tanning machine that only emmits a certain ray. Prior to this you take a tablet that makes your skin sensitive to light. It works better on some people. I think it is supposed to stimulate the pigment to re-appear in the white patches. It worked slightly for me on my face. I hope that my advice is some help to you.

My son was diagnosed 4 years ago and his spots spread quickly. he now has spots on his arms, hands and face, legs. In the winter you can not really tell except on his arms and hands.some seem like they go away and come back just like you stated. He is light skin color and in the summer he tans faster than the rest of us and also his spots show up more. we use protopic in the summer on his face because he has a hard time if his spots on his face start to come out
I cant say kids werent mean. He was a popular high schooler that played sports. Some of his own friends would crack jokes and I took them harder than he did. He is now a freshman in college and it does not seem to faze him at all anymore.
