Hi all. I have just joined this group/community. My name is Doug, I am a gaming addict. I have an addictive personality, and have the propensity to use ANYTHING that takes me out of myself or makes me feel good, in an extremely self-distructive way.

But gaming seems so innocuous on the surface, right? Well, I had a couple good years of no games AT ALL on my computers (not even solitaire), but after that period of time I thought maybe I could go back and play responsibly.

I can fool myself that I am doing just that, because I will take care of business in the times I can tear myself away from the computer/online, and I will not stay up until after midnite to play (yet!!).

But, the reality is this is not a good thing for me, it doesn't do anything productive/positive for me in my life, and I WANT TO CHANGE.

The first step (as in all recovery programs), is to admit I have a problem and that I am powerless over this. I cannot do it AT ALL.

I'll take a quote from A.A. and rework it here. 5 minutes on the game is too much, and 1000 hours is never enough.

When I quit last time, I didn't mark the date. This morning I removed all the games, destroyed the cd's they were on and marked the date on my calendar.

Then I looked up support groups online. Thank you all for being here...

...doug

" How is it going now! Good for you, you've broken the barriers down in the past more successfully than I ever have.

I have an addictive personality myself, I think people like ourselves need to make sure we are addicted to work, family and taking care of ourselves, if we managed that, we'd be on easy street :)

Keep us updated and best of luck. "
