These last few weeks have been tough. Ive been taking myself on a crash course through growing up. Part of it was looking at what stopped me. I would play video games for 12 hour stints, every day. About a month ago, I started playing WoW and almost lost my g/f because it slipped my mind to call her for about a week, working on the next quest and level.

I just got back from basic training not to long ago, got a 5 grand bonus, and spent 3500 on gaming stuff. I looked at my acct today and saw I only had $300 in it, and now I see the impact gaming has had on me. I planned on spending some of that bonus on a vehicle, and apartment, but the minute I walked into EB, that kindve went out the window.

Like I said, Its time for me to grow up, and Im glad to see that theres a group like this out there. As I write this, Im sitting with my entertainment center in pieces, as I pulled out every console in it.

I kept rationalizing keeping them "Oh, I need a DVD player, and it stores my music" and then Id just buy games for them too. Now, Ive noticed more and more, a lack of interest in the games, and yet I still feel driven to buy them. Its not compulsive spending, because I dont spend my money on anything else. I buy a game, play it for about an hour, and put it on a shelf where it collects dust. Sometimes the other extreme happens, and I buy a game, and it takes over.

Ive got a good woman though, She was hurt because when we started dating she told she wasnt dating gamers anymore, because her ex would just sit, and play everquest, and WoW all the time, and pay no attention to her. After a few weeks I told her, it was the equivilant of coming out of the closet. Hit her like a brick wall, but she decided I wasnt to the same extreme. Difference is, she lived with him, so she saw all the time he spent on the games, she didnt know that when she wasnt around all I did was sit and play games.

Long story short.... the big day is this weekend, the day I take one last trip to EB to tell them to cancel all my pre-orders, and to sell my stuff back. If I can make one one liner about everything its this:

Game Over for Game Overs.
No more.
The Sun is shining,
Its time to go out and enjoy life.
Game over, For Game Overs.

" I did as you did but was a little to late to save some things. I have been dry since Feb. I miss some of the people cause of all my relationships i had from my guild. The good news is it folded soon after I left. Guess I was the glue but in any case nope life is great now. My days are much longer and started playing league basketball and working out again. Feel like I am 20 again. Plus to have women to call me so stinking hot well was worth it's weight in gold. However I came here with no one but me and had to do it alone. I offer you my friendship so you do not have too. Congrats on this new life and do hope you re coup some cash. At the very lest you on the way to a real and happy life. "

" Its official, All my consoles are gone, all my pay to play accts are cancelled, and I recouped 400, which, sadly, is only the cost of the 360, but its better than nothing. Im going away with the g/f for the weekend.

I still kept 2 games on my computer, but theyre games I dont feel drawn to play all the time. Im comfortable playing a game or two of sc, and than going about my day.

This is my safe zone ive decided, the middle ground between entertainment, and real life.

Ive also started working on some projects I always said I wanted to do. In my free time I paint, and build things, so now Im working on taking old clippings and such from tattoo, music, and extreme sports magazines, and attaching them to word furniture. I always thought it would look cool, and Im in the middle of doing a bookshelf in that style right now.

Just stopped to give y'all a status report.

It was weird last night not to have WOW to play, or halo 2, or anything like that. I got mild anxiety realizing none of them existed in my personal world anymore.

but its all a step in the right direction. "

" yah dawg it is for sure. Thats a key get busy with other things you love. Also think much into what the root was why you gamed. There is always a root even if it's not complex. You kill the root then re lapse is mute. I am happy for you though. This world is every thing we want to make of it. All it takes is hours in just like the game wow. We were not really that great in a way. It was all about hours in that got us our gear and made our connections. Do me something though. Post you works for me. I would like to see them and even pics of your trip that you doing. It's all good stuff from you grip on your new path. Go get um. "

" Im working with a webgame now, they have an internet radio station for it, and I was asked to DJ, so now at random intervals Im spinning tunes, which has always been a passion of mine, DJing. I wont post the games link here, because it seems tactlss to post it in a VG Addiction group, but if youd like to hear me sometime, send me a message. "

" It sounds like you've made some solid steps so far! Just keep enjoying life and keep an eye out for any possible regression to the gaming. It might be something innocuous like a free online game; stay vigilant. Don't beat yourself up if you play for an hour or so, just keep track of any time that you spend.
It's easy to say that you've quit, but any addiction keeps a hold on you for quite a while. If you keep engaging yourself with the real world, though, I find that things tend to heal themself. "
