I just steped out of my back slide. This time was x-box with Halo 3. Good news is that it was not long nor did it consume my life. I did get a deeper understanding of my why. It is not the play but hope of winning. There is a thrill that must release a high and I must be sensitive to it. So the truth for me is abstainence. There is this too. Just thinking about past and the thrill gives me a transistor fix. That is enough to trigger a small fix but it can't sustain the crave. This is how much a pain it is.

" i think you're right about the fact that it's not about the game, but the hope of winning and the feeling of success. (without really doing or accomplishing anything) my fiance is totally addicted and i just realized he has a gambling problem too and now his video game addiction makes so much more sense to me. it's about the risk; in world of warcraft he wagers time in hopes of getting loot and in vegas he wagers money in hopes of getting more money. " I guess that the issues involved depend to some extent on the person and the type of game that they are addicted to. For me, I have never played any MMORPG, much less be addicted to one. Instead, it is just simple standard PC video games that are my "drug" of choice. I just use them as a form of escape as playing them well requires intense mental concentration (e.g., for MineSweeper and 3-D Pinball, my two main games of choice). That allows me a period of time when I don't think about whatever problems that I am trying to escape from.

I believe that it is important for each person to understand whatever particular underlying reason they have for playing video games. This will help them to deal with the addiction, just as my understanding has helped me to deal with mine. Good luck in dealing with yours. "
