The below paragraph was taken from a post from the Vietnam Veterans' Home Page at:

http://www.vietvet.org/

The extract comes from the Vietnam Veteran Lost and Found Locator Link off the VSO and Support Organizations Page.

It reads as follows:

Trying to locate: "Fitzpatrick" 1968 Red Beach, Vietnam
Branch of Service: Navy
Unit was: Red beach 1
Where served: Vietnam
When served: 1968

Message is: My father was blown up in 1968 in Red Beach Vietnam. A man by the name of Fitzpatrick was there to take the boy away from my father whom my father had disabled several explozive devices when they all engaged and my father lost an eye and both hands. They thought he was dead when they found him but in fact he has survived. Now as we are looking into the records my father has been denied a purple heart because they claim my father had purposely inflicted the wounds on himself without any child or reason behind his actions. I am trying to find this man... I am hoping it might stand out to someone.... My fathers name is *** ****... he was a Seaman at the time of injury because of his younger actions.. but this would mean alot to him to just get the records straight. Apparently there was a newspaper article written also but those have been lost in a fire.... Anything would help.. any lead at all. God bless

I deleted her contact info. I can only fight back my rage and continue working through Vet groups to get the VA's ass squared away.

" As sappy as this sounds, I cry every time I hear or read a story about our boys that fought in Vietnam and are being mistreated here. I too, am a Vietnam vet and I have reached the point of resignation for myself but the guys don't deserve to be mistreated for sure. "

" My husband is a Vietnam Vet, drafted in 1967, against his will. He was a US Army Adviser, stationed with the Australian Army, but I can't remember the name of the station, and there's no way I can ask him. He was wounded in a convey attack, many of his friends were killed or wounded. My husband refused to accept the "Purple Heart" which he earned, in protest of the war, but not in protest of his fellow brothers in arms. He still has shrapnel in his neck, which is visible on an MRI, but since he was sent to an Australian field hospital, there are no records available and no help from our government, which makes me so very sad not only for him, but for men like yours.

Please relay this for me: I'm so sorry to hear about your plight, but please know that we hear ya, we hear ya...God bless you and I hope that you know how much our country loves you. We love you, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your service. You know, back then, our country was so divided, but even though you may have thought that you weren't loved and admired for your efforts and your contribution to our freedom, everyone now regrets if they have made you feel unloved for your service. We thank you, we applaud you, you'll never be forgotten, dear soldier. You'll NEVER be forgotten, Dear Soldier. xoxoxoxo "
