Follow Your Heart makes a pretty good one...they melt.
I have tried the chedder and mozzarella.
I found them at Whole Foods...I don't remember them being expensive.
Worth a try.

Yep- Follow your heart. They have Mozzarella, Cheddar, Nacho, and Montrey Jack. It's delicious and melts. The also sell this at Wiggins. This is the only vegan cheese I use but what about Rice cheese? I've never tried it as I don't enjoy rice dream products.

Look for sheeze. It's fab. you can get it online at veganessentials.com. Hopefully it won't take 2 weeks for you americans! But the wait will be worth it! I have tried many types of vegan cheese and this is the best. A little goes a long way!

Tofutti brand makes vegan cheese. It has a creamy texture, but sort of a strong flavor. I like to use it in sandwiches as opposed to just eating it plain. Tofutti also makes great ice cream! I try to avoid casein because I don't tolerate it very well.

Does anyone know any really good recipes for making your own vegan cheese at home? The one time I tried it, using a recipe off the Net, I was so traumatized I still shudder when I think about it.

I think it's a bit risky to try to make your own at home. I'd rather buy it from a store, when I can find it. Btw, I used the tofutti cheese for making a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch today and it melted beautifully. Tasted good too!

The problem w/the recipe I tried at home was that it got its orange color from pimientoes, which in my opinion are solid proof of the existence of evil. I kidded myself that they only had me use enough for color, not flavor, but I was so wrong!

I could see how that could be a disaster!
