i need to stop being a FAT Veggie.

Hey there, I have a HUGE problem, no pun intended.
i have been vegetarian since 1995, and since then, alot of vegt convenience foods have come out.
i am not a kitchen dweller, the less time in there the better, so i have always had a hard time with recipes and cookbooks and blah blah.
thats why i love the convenience food.
the problem.. i went from 144 to 244 over 10 years.
i need some help. i have tried to go vegan, i have tried to cut back, i just cant, im soooo hungry :(
i hate myself, i hate how i feel, how i look.
i just bought the book "skinny bitch" and that book ,like mcdougall and some others i have recently seen, point to vegan.
and its not like i CANT enjoy that food, but it invovles SO much cooking, planning, prep.. and that thrusts me down the toilet every time.
i am turning 40 this year, and i am devastated at my health.
any advice on helping me find some "vegan convenience" ?

" I follow McDougall and I don't cook for hours. You don't have to follow his recipes to follow his plan. I actually lost 80lbs. on his plan so it works. How convienient are you looking for? Good health does require some maintenance. "

" hey there xbox :)
LOVE bioshock btw, im a huge gamer, again, no pun intended.
well, i eat mostly morningstar farms prodcuts, and yves.
we have tacos with the crumbles, burgers. blt's with the strips. i have chicken patties for lunch, just 1 sometimes 2 - no bread, just a slice of veg cheese with some franks red hot/mayo spread on it.
i eat tofu dogs with mustard, kraut, ketchup - no bread.
that kind of stuff.
i still eat cheese, i am integrating soy/veg cheese into my diet and weeding out regular cheese where i can.
his plan calls for one thing i can never do, mostly cuz i dont wanna, and thats give up coffee. im just not a gourmet person. i have a pool of std stuff i eat, and i rarely vary. "

" so you follow the rest of his plan and drink coffee. i don't follow every single solitary rule of his plan. like i eat saltines with my tomato soup(made with water, not milk). I have a regular set of meals I like to make usually takes 10 minutes top and none of them are his recipes.

Yes Bioshock rules. So does Halo, Oblivion, Lost Planet, Prey, oops wrong forum. "

" I'm not sure i can help you out much, because i'm an overweight vegie too. And I do like cooking, but because I work, one pot meals are the way to go for me most of the time.

I too love my dairy, but in the last few weeks, I've cut back (not quit all together), and I've noticed a difference with weight loss.

Try stir frys. You can't get more convenient than that, noodles softening in a bowl to the side, and a mountain of vegies and tofu sizzling in the wok with the noodles thrown in at the end. Half an hour from begining to end :-) "

" Having stir fry is great. I eat it all the time, but could I suggest rice instead of noodles. Noodles are a refined carbohydrate and should be avoided when trying to lose weight. Rice, even white, would be a much better option. "

" Your vegan convenience foods are all at the produce counter. I am not one of the great chefs of Europe or anything and I hate spending time cooking. I sling a bunch of ingredients in the slow cooker and forget about them for 8 hours, or bring an apple or orange in my bookbag. It's a lot for me if I spend even 15 minutes doing food prep in a day. And I eat well.

"Cutting back" is a terrible idea!!! The whole point of being vegan for me is eating high-volume, low-fat foods. It takes less than a minute to throw together an energy shake in the blender; 5 minutes to make a stack of burritos that will make me a whole week's worth of work lunches; 2 minutes to assemble vegetable soup. get a copy of "The Student's Go Vegan Cookbook" and/or "Rawsome!" and go to it.

You need to learn to see pre-packaged, processed foods as CERTAIN DEATH, my friend. "

" But with that said, let me suggest Thai Kitchen Instant Pad Thai Noodles. Add water and heat for 4 minutes. 2g fat per serving. Great work lunch. "

" do you stay away from anything with animal product in it. the site of peta. com has all the other names manufacturers use to cover up meat products. i'm sure you know all about that. it's helped me to read labels CAREFULLY. i, too, gained almost twenty pounds in the first six months of becoming veggie. i cut out all meat products, i mean dead meat not dairy stuff. i have cut out drinking anything but water and have lost five pounds in the last month. " My advice is to start slow. McDougall works. But it doesn't mean you have to start off obeying every rule. Ease yourself into it. Try to avoid processed foods, even if they are vegan. make tons of whole grain dishes and eat until you are full, and then eat again when you are hungry. It's all about a lifestyle change. Don't be too hard on yourself and go slow. You can do it! "
