" Hi there,
I know how you feel. My family has a beef ranch...and I am vegan. I just stay strong and say I feel better when I eat that way. My body feels better and my soul. after a wile people will respect you for it but it may take some time. Also it takes some planning when you want to get togeather for a party or something, but I know you can do it. "

" I just bought the book "Living Among Meat Eaters" by Carol J Adams and she puts its all in a nutshell, why people are reactive and negative towards vegetarianism and the people who adopt the diet. I am the same way, my grandmother thinks I am going to die of protien deficiency! lol "

" Hey, I go through the same kind of stuff. My friends and family, all of whom I adore, eat meat and "love it". I used to try to tell them about what goes on in slaughterhouses and how bad meat is for you, but it's like they don't want to know. No one must disturb their cushy illusions, so I kind of gave up the oratory.

I would just blow their comments off. Be like, "whatever. shows what you know." And when you do tell people you're vegetarian, act like it's no big deal, like it's really common and everyone's doing it (cuz they are!). Then if they get in your face about it, just look at them like they don't know what's up! Even if they don't change their behavior, it will be funny to watch them acting ridiculous trying to get a rise out of you.

I am going to have to check out the "Living among the meat eaters" book, by the way. "

" "Not American"? What benighted corner of the country do you live in, man? Living in America means you CHOOSE how you live. Tell 'em I said so. "
