I'm new to this support group and I am in the process of becoming a vegetarian. I am considering becoming a vegan also but I am worried about the whole B12 vitamin. Do you have to take supplements or what? Is it really safe to be a vegan? I'm just confused and concerned.

" I have been vegan for 5 years and I remember wanting to do it the safe way so I got this book (becoming vegan). Maybe 3 or 4 months in to it I felt like hell and my finger nails were comming off. I was about to call it quits when a good friend of mine told me about nutritional yeast. I remember the book had one little bit on it but it should have said(if you don't take this you will want to die). It's the best and will take care of all your B needs. It tastes a bit nutty and is good on anything that you would like cheese on. "

" I bought some nutritional yeast but I made the mistake of using it in a recipe calling for pimientos. I have to let the trauma wear off before I tackle it again. "

" I tried finding the yeast at Kroger but I didn't see it. I looked at my prenatal vitamins (I'm not pregnant but my doctor said it is a good multi vitamin to take for woman) and it says it has 8mcg of b12 or 100% of the daily value. I still want to find that yeast. "

" I have to take a B12 vitamin due to the fact that my body can't handle eggs now. I had no idea how vital B12 was untill I wasn't getting it. I thank God that my close friend is vegetarian. She helped me out alot and told me to get a B12 supplement. My energy picked up alot when I did. "
