Warm weather is coming, when I always have the most difficulty with rash. I shave twice a week, wash and change several times a day, use Desitin and cornstarch powder at every possible change, and still have occasional difficulty. There must be better ways to manage. I will be happy to read posts on skin care, especially during warm weather.

" If you were in Aus, I would have recommended Nappy Mate Paste - a fabulous zinc oxide based paste that clears up rash overnight. Each gram contains

Zinc Oxide 200mg
Compound Benzoin Tincture 1.12ml
Aluminium Chlorohydrate 20mg
Dimethicone 350 (Silicone) 100mg
just in case there is anything similar where you are.

I've heard good things about Triple Paste that's available from pharmacies. I believe you need to ask the pharmacist to mix it up for you. Otherwise, Bordeaux's Butt Paste is a good one to try.

All of these will stain cloth diapers, so I recommend using a liner. Actually a liner is a good idea anyway as it keeps the skin drier. You can use what I used on my daughter when she was in cloth and it's cheap and re-usable. It's polar fleece or micro fleece.

Cut a rectangular shape or an hour glass shape if you are feeling adventurous and use it to line the diaper in the crutch. Affix the diaper as normal. Polar fleece is naturally waterphobic, it doesn't like being wet. The urine passes through the liner to the absorbant padding and will keep your skin drier. Another advantage is that it's very soft and causes less chafing than a rougher diaper may.

If you're interested just google "fleece liner for diaper" and you'll get lots of ideas and more reasons as to why fleece works. All I know is that my daughter rarely/never had nappy rash when she had a fleece liner in and would if I ran out of liners!

" Thanks for the posts. I guess this should have been under the advice board, but your answers were informative. I had never heard of such a thing as a fleece liner for diaper. Live and learn. "

" Rash is something I know way too much about and I dread summer weather because of it. Letting your skin get as much fresh air as possible before putting on your protection is a good start, but over-the-counter oitnement and powder can only go so far. Once I'm rashed and have been using Destein, et al. I call my dermatologist and use prescription creams until its gone. "
