Weight gain with twins

Ok so I have been given a hard time about my weight from the male doctors in my perinatology practice... (the female ones tell me I am fine) I am 5ft 9in.. my pre pregnancy weight was 128...I was totally active (until I got pregnant) with yogo, running, training and pilates..I was working a TON too.. I have been on very strict bedrest since week 10 (with no outings allowed accept dr appts weekly) and I am currently 28 weeks pregnant. I have gained 36 pounds... yes that is a lot but I don't think I'm fat - although I am a lot bigger than I use to be. My belly and boobs are huge. My bedrest and inactivity I am sure are contributing.
I am on a very strict diet..(bc my glucose levels were 133) I am hungry most of the time bc of it... and I am not allowed sugars or other carbs.. they even have me restrict fruit. So - my excitment is two cut up strawberries per day. Ok so enough of my complaining.. does anyone have any advice or personal experience on this topic?
Ok, one more thing... I guess my frustraion stems from the folks I've heard gain 50-75 lbs with just one baby and their docs never gave them the "weight" talk. Help!

" I was in your shoes, well almost ABout an inch off and 10 pounds heavier. I gained 33 pounds in 33 weeks with the girls and often heard that I wasn't gaining enough weight. I had to drink ensure 3 times a day to even gainthat. I think you have gained a very healthy amount, especially because you were so thin before getting pg! "

" I am only at 16 weeks but my DR keeps teeling me I should only gain 40-45 lbs and I am 6 foot tall. I excerise everyday at Curves and walk at least 1 mile and keep gaining. I am afraid I will go over the 45lbs and he will start discouraging me of it even more. This is baby 4&5 for me so I started showing the day I found out I was PG and my boobs are bigger then any of my previouse PG's. "

" Hi girls... I am so glad to hear your responses.. it normalizes what my body is doing. As to whether I've told my doctor to "back off".. well, it is kind of hard for me bc I was so emotional about it at first I thought I would burst into tears! I was so worried about not gaining enough weight at the beginning bc they gave me the "your underweight talk" at my first perinatal appt.. I made sure I followed the latest research with eating... My favorite doc in the practice is a woman and she told me that I was doing great and not to listen to the comments of the other doctors... I trust her. I could actually tell that their words made her mad - I am sure she said something to them. She is who will deliver the babies. She is never rushed - always respects my questions, concerns etc. Anwyay, I just want what is best for the babies... and I don't want them to be hungry! I know I will always lose the weight... I'm sure I'm have no idea the marathon I am about to run when these little guys are born - I can't wait! "

" Wow, I am REALLY surprised that the doc is giving you such a hard time. Jeez, I was what they call "morbidly obese" when I got pregnant with my twins (fraternal boys), and so they monitored my weight - but they told me that I could safely gain up to 30 or so pounds (all I gained was 25) because even though I am overweight, twins are VERY heavy.

The good news is that by the 6th week, I had lost a total of 50 pounds! Of course, I was so tired I was walking into walls and putting milk in the cupboard instead of the fridge after getting my daughter a bowl of cereal... I don't remember if I kept eating after they were born or not!!! lol "

" I don't think you are doing bad at all, especially when you are on bedrest, I gained about the same amount around your time, I was scared cause I gained like 50 lbs with my first kid, these were twins, I gained a total of about 40 or so, well after giving birth to the boys, I have been 10 lbs over my prepregnancy weight, I lost it all after delivery, twins and all the stuff that come with them, water, two placenta's, etc., it weighs quite a bit. I think you're fine, you probably have some docs who are just trying to stick to the 'book'. I am sorry, but every woman's body is different, we gain at different weights and some gain more with less food, its not fair, but thats that and I would just tell those male docs not to mention it again cause you are trying your best and its bad enough to deal with the pregnancy and not have to have their ridiculous guilt trips as well. Well, keep up the good work and God bless. "

" i only gained40 lbs my entire pregency and went to 39 weks had over 6lbs babies and my dr was very happy with my weight gain i worked 2 jobs up until 33 wks and was only on moderate bedrest. so i say you are doing fine and don't worry about the male dr that is a reason i only had female drs this time.
