Swaddling

For those of you who swaddle - I plan to swaddle but I am concerned about doing during the night time hours while we are all sleeping. How do you insure that the baby has not wiggled out of the blanket thus running the risk of the baby suffocating on the loose blanket. I have been looking at the sleepers that double as a swaddler - it has velcro to keep it in place - this might be a better idea than just using a traditional blanket - but the sleepers that swaddle don't seem as tight around the legs as swaddling with a blanket would be. SO . . . what are ya'll doing?

" the boppy company has swaddler blankets that are velco and they seem to be tight enough. that is what my plan is, plus to keep them from wiggling too much i am purchasing those sleep positioners so they can't roll over or move around a whole lot. i registered for the "Especially for Baby Inclined to Sleep" at babies r us. " I swaddled...ask the nurse to show you how and the nurse will show you to tuck the blankets in so the babies cant get out...when the babies are this small...they arent moving much anyway...and remember...swaddeling sleeper blankets have been around for what 5 minutes...receiving blankets have been around for hundreds of years... " We used the Miracle Blankets which are shaped especially for swaddling and work really well. My boys were able to wiggle out of the receiving blankets pretty early (even with very tight swaddling). The Miracle blankets have an extra long side which you can literally wind around the baby to keep the blanket tight. I think it helped they sleep for longer periods. "

" if you aks the nurses to show you how to swaddle, baby shouldn't be able to get out.
you shouldn't need special blankets if it's done right.
do make sure that your blankets are big enough to swaddle. We bought fabric at a fabric store and just hemmed the edges into 1 metre sections. "

" Swaddling is an art! LOL. My X was the best swaddler! You'll learn quickly to do it tight.

If you're leary of using blankets and a little nervous that they may come undone, get the kanga. I think that's what it's called. Like a little cocoon for the babies! Congrats! "

" Just some advice but one of my twins couldn't STAND to be swaddled!! She would whine and cry even though I had just changed her, fed her, burped her, etc. then we finally figured out it was the blanket one night! And one of them did like to be swaddled...I used a traditional blanket because I was unaware of this velcro blanket everyone speaks of???? They are 5 now so they are still alive and my mom did the same for me and I'm still here too. I'm just saying if you are having twins there are so many other things/expenses that you could purchase instead of these new fashion gadgets but it's just my opinion that's all! "

" I would not have survived with out swaddling. I use the Swaddelme blankets at Babies R Us. The velcro helps keep them tight and in place. You really don't need to worry. Trust me they are lifesavers and really help my little ones sleep sound. Good Luck "

" I got roped into the gimmick of swaddle blankets too. My twins hate to be swaddled but when we did use it we just used the cotton receiving blankets...they work much better....I would try the blankets first because of expense....I could kick myself for wasting the $$. "
