Echocardiogram?

Leonie's Geneticist has suggested that she have another echo done of her heart. I haven't made the call yet mostly because I don't know what it all entails. While we are still going to have this done, I want to know what she is going to be put through. Will they have to put her under for the procedure? Could someone give me an insite to this next step please?

Just a worried mom =)

" I'll be having one done in June when I'm at a clinical study in Maryland. This is from the National Institute of Health ...

Since heart defects are relatively common in Turner syndrome, we want to evaluate your heart to see if you have this problem. An echo cardiogram makes images of the heart through the use of sounds waves. This painless test van help to identify abnormalities in the heart muscle and valves. You will be asked to remove all clothing form the waist up. three electrodes will be attached to your chest to record an ECG at the same time. Conduction gel will be applied to the chest area. You will lie on a bed and may be asked to move into different positions. As the nurse or technologist presses a probe to the chest area, several readings and images will appear on the video screen. When all the needed information is obtained, the gel and electrodes will be removed. This is a painless and risk-free test.

Hope that helps relieve some of your worries! *hugs* "

" I've had a ECG (echocardogram) a year ago, I asked my Dr to get me a oppointment, luckly for me it turned out fine.
I'm also a Nurse and I used to work in a A&E department, I did load's of ECG's each day on people. As DawnNicole said its a painless procudure. It takes a couple of minutes to set up but its over quickly.
Good luckxx "

" my daughter had one at 16 mths and they had to sedate with chloral hydrate, a mild sedative... they hook up electrodes and tech looks on screen and takes pictures. We were lucky, everything looked fine. I think the recommendation is to still have another one when she is 5 years old. Don't worry, super easy test... easy sedative that is administered by mouth.
good luck, keep us updated, "

" Well, I made the appointment today. She will go in on May 22 at 9am central time. They did inform me of the sedative and when to stop her eating and drinking. They even asked me to keep her up a little later at night and get her up at least an hour before she normally gets up so she will be tired. Not so sure about that. She just had tubes placed in her ears like two months ago, that stuff is powerful. She won't need any extra help 'getting tired' LOL. Just don't look forward to the crabby afternoon. Will let you all know how it goes. =) "
