Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation is also known as TENS or TNS

How is the treatment administered?
The Physical Therapist applies electrode patches to the skin in the area to be treated. "

" You need to have a rehabilitation specialist work with you. I wuld suggest frist talking with my neurologist. Although TEMS shouldn't hurt you you can have it too high and get quite a shock, and possibly a burn.
This is my first time here so on;t know if you are self diagnosed or doc diagnosed but this is really something that requires you get medical asistance. "

" I have been pondering the same question. I had a PT show me where to place it on my back, so I can do that at home now. I am considering asking my rheummy the next time I am in to give me a referral (insurance requirements) to the PT again in order for him to show me where to put it for TN. It is very important that you do not put it on either side of your heart, but beyond that, I'm not sure it is actually dangerous to experiment with, it just might be really uncomfortable if you turn it too high. Just make sure it is on the lowest setting and SLOWLY turn it up, assessing how it feels along the way. I think the manual in the unit has some advice along with their instructions. I think the pads need to be a certain distance apart to work well. I would try it below the belt (where it is less likely to cause any interference with the heart) before trying it on the face, just so there would be knowledge about how it is "supposed" to feel. I'll let you know how it goes if I experiment on my TN face area soon. Hope to hear how it goes with you. "

" I had a PT show me, many years ago, in the hospital and she burned my face where she had the pad, not realizing that the setting was too high for me.
Also did you buy the machine new or used? I would be cautious if secondhand or refurbished. "

" I just found a wikipedia article on TENS that said to NEVER place it on or near the trigeminal nerve. ??? I have always wanted to do it, but always had an intuition not to. How are you doing? Did you try it? "

I'm not sure what they mean by that as the trigeminal nerve ennervates the entire side of the face but the nerve itself is deep with in the brain.
(For many people touch is so painful that you could not tolerate putting it on the face, maybe that's what they mean?) "
