MVD Microvascular Decompression

I've had TN for awhile now and have tried all remedies but nothing works anymore. I've seen a couple of neurosurgeons and they both recommended that I get MVD done. I've read up on it a bit online and it sounds scary but any kind of operation is. I was wondering if anyone has had this procedure done and what are the outcomes?

" Thanks for your reply. I'm so against surgery but I feel like it's my only choice. I'm going to get more opinions. Did you get any side effects like permanent numbness or anything else? "

" Unfortunately Pewter Jannetta operated on me and paralyzed that half of my face. It resulted in permanent eye complications.
The thing with risks is that if they happen to you they are 100% risk.
There are many treatment and surgical options out there and not all docs believe MVD is the way to go.
It can be a good surgery but I think your decision to investigate what is available is a very good idea. If you have not gotten a second neurosurgicasl opinion I would definitely advise you to do so.

" Hi Cyn228. My name is Janice,i have had T.N. for five years. It was so so bad, this was after having a tooth out. My neurosurgeon recommended
M.V.D operation.I had my op on the 5th of March
this year.I was in hospital eight days.I have been pain free since.I was not very well in hospital,i had Pneumonia very hight temperature. Also a lumber puncture and clinical
meningitis.I was just unlucky.It is a very
tricky op.I googled the op on the internet,as i have to know everything before hand. I had a wonderful surgeon, and he is very pleased with me and the op has so far been a success.Ihave joined a support group where i live. This is in Edinburgh Scotland.I have spoken to seven people who have had M.V.D.One it returned after one year, one it didnt work from day one.And she was a doctor.I am still recovering
,but thank God for every free day of pain.Hope this helps,go with your Neurosurgeon advice.
Big hugs from Janice. "

" Thanks for all your replies everyone. I'm currently waiting for my ins.to approve of my request to see a neurosurgeon at USC. In the meantime, I'm still taking 600mg of Lyrica and found a new medication online called Trigno Tab. It was guaranteed to treat tirgeminal neuralgia. I had doubts on taking meds that I don't really know about but did ask my doctor and my friend who's a pharmacist about this medication. I was in so much pain that I've decided to take it along with my Lyrica. I'm now feeling a little better but that pain is constantly there. Has anyone tried this Trigno Tab? "
