I was recently diagnosed with TN and am having a really rough time with it right now. I have been using chinese herbs and acupuncture up to this point but have an appt to see my DO on July 3rd.
I am finding that the Norco I take for my FMS doesn't seem to touch the TN pain. What have ya'll found that works for you? Thanks....gentle huggles.... Basket Posted on 06/13/08, 12:06 pm |

I started trileptal the first week in May and have had a reduction in significant flare-ups. The side effects have weakened since the first couple of weeks too. I take tramadol during the flares and it takes the edge off with the other med in place. I take etodolac and methocarbomol for fibro and arthritis, but it wasn't touching the TN. good luck!
light and life to you, Pat

Basketmoon, I take tegretol (400mg daily) and for the breakthrough pain I take hydrocodone with ibuprophen.

I take 600 mgs. of Tegretol and although it's not perfect, I still have breakthrough pain from time to time, it works really well.

I wonder if you have considered going to a neurologist? DOs and GPs can be limited in what they know.
There are drugs and treatments that do help if you get to the right provider. Good Luck Cyndi-Marie

Hello basket moon,
I am also new to this site so its great I don,t feel so uncomfortable. Was not sure how to start or what to do. Seen that you have recently be diagnosed I hope the doctor tries you on Tegretol which work for me for 3 years. It worked wonders. It has now came back and Tegretol is not working so have to try something else. But in the mean time For you I say Tegretol is the best. I had no side effects at all. See what you doctor says.

I take neurontin and it seems to have taken away the worst of the pain. I get a little twitch here and there though

I've had some succes with upper cervical chiropractic for glossopharyngeal neuralgia, which is very similar to TN. It's also called the Grostic method.

Hello BasketMoon
How was the acupunture treatments? Were they painful? I was told to try them but I can't even imagine anyone touching my face...even with the smallest of needles. I have been a member but not active in a while. Adding friends? I would like to meet more on here...Thanks! Happy Labor Day Weekend!
