" Hi i have had the op M.V.D.This was on the fith of March this year.I had no choice as the side effects from all the tablets were so so awful. It is a major op,takes appr five hours.I have a five inch scar behind my right ear.I have been pain free since the day before my op.But it wasnt easy as i had problems in hospital.I had pneumonia, lumber puncture, clinical meningitis.I am slowly getting back to normal. My surgeon said this was the best long term option. He was superb,so find a good surgeon. He is very pleased with me.Good luck. Janice. "

" I have had 2 MVD's. The first in 01 which helped some and one in 06 which did nothing. I am a worst case scenario pt. Dr Jannetta plans now to cut/remove part of the nerve and do another MVD if needed while he's in there.

It is a good first step. How well it works depends alot on the severity, and person. "

" The Trigeminal Neuralgia Association has quite a bit of information about the MVD. We also have a network of individuals who will share their experiences with you. I cannot remember if we can post links (it doesn't look that way), but you are welcome to send me an email, and I will help you get involved with a group of people who have had the MVD. Take care, and I'll be thinking about you. "

" They place a piece of teflon sponge between the vessel (artery or vein) and the nerve.
I have had 2 from Jannetta myself. My left side lost about 60% feeling. He touched on the occipital nerve causing me to have occipital neuralgia also. He is the best but things happen. I have to have another, I am having his partner Dr. Raymond Sekula operate. At this stage of the game (I've had TN 7.5 yrs) I want a young set of hands operating. Jannetta technically retired but still operates. I think he's getting to old at this point. A good man but that's just my preference. "
