I was taking Amitrypline for post natal depression when my TN started. The Dr tried to increase the dosage to stop the TN but it did not work. Sorry.

" Sorry Molly, I have been on Amitriptyline for years for nerve pain in my feet but it never did anything for my TN.

I am taking Tegretol and so far it is working like a charm. Ask your doc about that.

Marti "

" For me trileptal works great. Go to another neurologist - I'm not a fan of her response. There are many options, you shouldn't have to be in pain. "

" I have not taken elavil (brand name) for a long time, but when I did take it for depression (for years) I felt like a zombie. I would never take it again!! The benefits of the med doesn't show up for after two weeks - maybe part of why Dr is being stubborn about not switching - also good not to confuse which med is working - not more than one new one at once. I don't know if Trileptal has helped me some or not - my theory is just that my TN comes and goes and whatever I am doing when it goes is what I attribute to helping me. I don't think that people who have not felt TN pain have any idea how excrutiating it is - how could they? But a bunch of us DS folks understand - you are not alone.
good luck! "
