Hi all

I am due to have my MRI scan on 19 March. However, over the last week or so (or certainly since my overdose of Tegretol) I have had the most horrendous taste in my mouth. My mouth just fills up, particularly first thing in the morning and then after I have eaten, with bitter tasting saliva. One GP told me this is due to the TN and another said its down to the meds I am on- Tegretol, Tramadal and anti-sickness. At the present time the pain is tolerable but I am experiencing numbness on the temple where the TN is, and ca feel some kind of pulsating just above my ear and then minor attacks on my upper back teeth and into the gums. Because of the taste, numbness, tooth and gum pain, I emailed the fpa support group and they have said my symptoms are confusing, I should seek a second opinion and they have never known anyone to experience this strange taste from using Tegretol.

My head is now all over the place. Do I have toothache? Do I need to see the Dentist? Has the Neurologist got it wrong? Is the Tramadol pain relief masking the actual pain of the toothache? What is this taste?

It feels like I am going mad. I though I had come to terms with the TN and now I am having doubts that I have been incorrectly diagnosed and that in fact for the last 10 months I have just had toothache. Surely if the taste and pain in the teeth and gums was down to some kind of infection or abcess it would have come to light by now.

I just feel so confused. I WANT MY LIFE BACK.

Sorry for all the ranting, but only you guys can possibly understood how I feel.

Can anyone offer any advice. Should I ignore what the fpa support have said and carry on with my MRI scan and seeing the Neurologist. If the MRI scan shows nothing then I will still be none the wiser.

Best wishes to you all

Lisa

" Continue on- See every single doctor you can. The neurologist is going to help sort things out. But it can't hurt to see the dentist also.
I went crazy for a few months wondering if my diagnosis was wrong. And it was at first- I spent months with a doctor who told me I needed I needed nose surgery!
Now- are you sure you don't have an infected tooth? An infection would cause a horrible taste in your mouth. So would a sinus infection-
Sorry, I am asking more questions than giving you answers. Keep all of your appointments! It stinks but we have to go through a process of ruling stuff out.
Please hang in there and keep me posted:) good luck- I know the feeling of going crazy, I know it well!
