I am writing my senior thesis for my mental health degree and I could really use your help.

If you have a few minutes it would really help me if you could fill in the following survey.

This survey is completely anonymous and voluntary. It will not be published but used as research for my senior thesis paper.

My thesis is to challenge the idea that rates of suicide and mental illness are higher in the gay, lesbian & transgender population due to their sexual orientation. I intend to prove that in fact the increase rates are due to societal treatment of homosexual people.

At what age did you acknowledge/accept your sexual orientation?

How did you family/close friends react to you coming out?

Do you come from a family with a strong religious background?
If so what religion?

Did your sexual orientation affect your education experience? If so how?

Have you ever dealt with any mental health issues (i.e. depression, eating disorder, anxiety, suicidal thoughts)?

If so did you seek professional help?

What was that experience like?

Do you feel that your mental health issues were caused by, contributed to or in any way linked to your sexual orientation?

If so please explain.

Have you ever been the victim of violence because of your sexual orientation?

Have you ever been the victim of harassment because of your sexual orientation?

Have you ever received prejudicial treatment in any sphere of society due to your sexual orientation?
