Anxiety along with Tics?

I was curious to know how many are dealing with Anxiety along with the Tics?

I have noticed that Danny has been real anxious about some things lately--much more than he used to be just a few months ago. We were at an amusement park and he was very worried about making sure I had his wallet and that I didn't loose it. He was also worried about some other stuff and I had to sit him down and tell him that he is a kid and shouldn't be worrying about stuff like this since it is a mom and dads job to do the worrying so when he is a dad he can take over the job~lol~! He also worked himself up about a Wii game that he didn't think he was going to be able to save--it almost made him sick to his stomach.

Can you tell me if you or your child has experienced this type of thing and how did it come on--before or after the tics started? Were you or your child always nerveous (Danny wasn't before) and what might I expect in the coming months?

Augh--I was just accepting the tics and now I am getting anxiety about him possibly having anxiety issues--(sounds like a vicious cycle!)double augh!!

Thanks for your replies!
Kristin

" I think anxiety with TS is pretty common. My son has OCD with it and his anxiety is sometimes very high. His therapist is much more concerned about the anxiety than the tics since tics seem to be worse with anxiety. If they can manage the anxiety, the tics seem minimal with him. I don't know if that made you feel better, but it's been my experience. "

" hunter has had anxiety long before the tics started, i would say he does have an anxiety disorder, and always had,, not sure the differnce between this and ocd, can someone clarify, they are kind of close, hunter is always nervous about things, he is always worried about things.. he thinks something lives in the mirrors, this is due to the spiderwick chronicles movie, wouldnt recommend it, his 6 year old friend was fine, but hunter is a very scared anxious boy,, he is very timid also, does not like to talk on the phone, doesnt like anybody hugging him or getting close except me, he is very nervous around new people, .. is anxiety the same as being a nervous child, because hunter is that.. not sure if this helps.. " i have TS, OCD and alot of anxiety. i've found though, that those all go pretty much hand in hand. it can be hard, but when he worries, reassure him. he might have to find his own way to help his anxiety. i go work in a barn around horses, and all my anxiety melts away for however long i'm out there. try to help him find something, a hobby, sport, anything that can be his release. " I suffer Generalized Anxiety Disorder, OCD, & depression, allong with my TS. & yes, they are comorbid (coexisting) sometimes. Panic attacks are NO joke! & my tics & outbursts get worse in anxiety-provoking situations. "

" My son had anxiety and OCD (germaphobia) years before the tics started. His tics only started last November.

In my opinion (and it's just my opinion), I don't think my son would have the tics if he didn't have his anxiety disorder and OCD.

My son feels stressed out almost all the time (mostly during the school year), and I think his little body can't handle it, so it comes out in tics. And that is his release somehow.

My son also gets bad headaches sometimes, mostly during the school year when he is the most stressed. I have noticed his anxiety and OCD since he was in Kindergarten, and this year he is going into the 4th. grade.

Anyway, try to find something to get your son's mind off his anxiety when he is stressed out. Something that he enjoys doing and helps him to relax.

My son likes to make movies with the video camera, and play video games. They seem to help him deal with his stress. I hope this helps.
