I posted this in an another discussion. Mr T will do what it wants play whatever tones or tunes it wants.I know this is not good news but there are some other people on here getting good results which im happy for them.If Mr T has the docs stumped then what are we to do but keep trying to find some relief.T is not a fit all sizes thing something might work for one person and not the other.we just have to keep trying.

My Tinnitus reacts more to a lot of different sounds coming at me all at once. Shopping centres, pubs, restaurants, busy streets, all elevate my T. I am surrounded by low level noise all day at work and it doesn't effect it, the TV or radio don't make it louder either.

Hi Becca, Don't feel bad about being so unlucky to be in a minority. I have pulsitile tinnitus, which beats to my heartbeat in my ear 24/7 and all the other noise on top of that. They say only 3% of t sufferers have it. I post on another board (tinnitus and hyperacusis community board)and they are trying to get me to challenge my beliefs using cognitive behavorial therapy. Easier said than done. Sounds like you are trying very hard though. Hard to believe Dr. J is not familiar with reactive tinnitus. I have that for sure as well. Hand to hand, heart to heart, hug to hug we are all one in this. Mark

I've experianced the same thing, it's as though my T competes with external noise, the louder the external noise the louder my T gets.

Cowboydan,
That's an interesting analogy. When I had mild/moderate T my T would blend in with external noises and it was easy to ignore. Now with severe T, my T competes with other sounds unless the sound is near a perfect pitch to my T. So far the only natural sound that masks my T is crickets on a summer night or a shower.

Well you must have quite a water bill!?LOL
Becca220,
Ive found that my T is like my ex.... does what it wants, when it wants, and has no regard whatsoever to the situation or circumstances at hand!!!

Crickets are my new best friends. They are about the same pitch as my T, so I sit outside in the evenings a lot more now than I used to. TV is no longer enjoyable sine I either have to turn it up loud, wich aggrivated the T, or if I keep it too low then all I hear is the T. ATTITUDE I have noticed is huge when it comes to it though. The better my mood, the better I can handle this thing. Hang in there Becca, I too am new to the T Club. And no offense to anyone, but this is one club I'd rather not participate in. Best wishes to you all!

Becca, I read on another Tinnitus website that someone really reacted to their generators the way you do - in this case it was the Neuromonics system - this person kept trying so hard to stay with it after he shelled out all that money - but after putting on the device - his T competed with the input and went through the roof - he had to quit the program. The Namenda I am on has changed my tinnitus to a completely other sound - I am wondering if this med might give you a different sound - I don't want to push drugs though - I just came off Xanax and gabapentin - weight gain - but it didn't change my tinnitus - just made me too - I don't know how to say it right - drugged to respond to it - the Namenda is not doing that to me though and has killed my appetite - I am keeping a journal on how it effects me everyday - helps me remember and keep track of my symptoms - every single day is different on this drug - anyway - I have a softer ring - I keep praying for less intensity - something I can ignore. I have four kids - oh by the way, the TV will sometimes trigger me to more intense tinnitus. Showers bring it back down - I have no idea what my ears and brain are thinking.

TV, showers, air conditioning, any constant sound makes my T louder. Believe it or not, I'm much better off in a quiet room. Yes, I can hear the T, but it does not hurt my head the way the constant sounds do. Weird.
