TRT Therapy

Wanted to give everyone a update on my TRT therapy. Just returned from Emory today. I saw Dr. Jasterboff and he was very happy with my progress. I have been on the therapy since Oct. 16 of 07, about 6 months now, and I am habitating very well, I still hear my T but at a lower level, and some days not at all. In another 3 months I'll have another appointment, and he will give me instructions on weaning me off the generators ,and possibly giving me hearings aids to wear in both ears that are not your traditional hearing aids, but have a microphone that fits inside the ear canal. Don't know to much about these yet but will let everyone know more later. I'am a little skeptical about getting off the generator's so soon, a little afraid because they have helped me so much. I don't think that I'am ready so soon but will talk to him about this at my next appointment. Hugs Fall

" Hi Fall,
I'm kind of doing my own TRT. I've been wearing the sound generators since last July and they really have saved my sanity. I have a high pitch ring in both ears, mostly in my left. For the first 3+ months with the sound generators I wore them in both ears. Since around last Thanksgiving / Christmas I only wear them on my left ear. I don't know if my right ear has gotten better or because the ringing is not so intense in the right ear, I'm used to it.
Like you, I can't imagine not wearing it on my left ear anytime soon and I'm okay enough with that. The external white noise is much more pleasing and rational than this internal eeeEEEeeEEEEeeeEEEeEE.
Best Wishes... "

" John, Dr Jasterboff told me to make sure to always wear the generators in both ears at all times, it has something to do with the way your brain interperts the sound waves and helps you to habitate quicker. He told me it won't work if I only used it in one ear. Hugs Fall "

" Thats a significant point, Fall.

I wish I understood the significance of treatment in both ears.. better.

I've also been told to use the demag in both ears by my audiologist. And I know nueromonics treats both left and right simultaneously.

JohnK, you might consider a right side generator at some point. The symmetry of it feels right in concept, I'd be curious to know more if Dr. Jasterboff could lend any more info to us, Fall. That would be great "

" Snowrider, I'am not quite sure about the significence of using the genetator's in both ear's. Dr Jastreboff said if you only use it in one ear , it would chase the sound to the opposite ear and would do no good, therefore using the generators in both ears trains your brain to habitate faster. It has something to do with the way your brain preceives the sound. I wish I understood it better myself, all this time I've been on the therapy, he has told me to set the generators to where it mixes with the tinnitus , not to mask it, because if you mask the sound of the T it will not work. Hugs Fall "

" Laurik, I have some high frequency hearing loss in both ears, but more so in my right ear where I have the tinnitus. My hearing loss is very nominal, hardly any at all. My tinnitus was caused by a head trauma from a accident I had in 01. A few weeks later I started hearing the noise but at a very low level , I could live with it.Then last year I had surgery and took a lot of antibotics and the noise got louder. I only have it in my rigt ear, and very seldom I may hear a low tinkling in my left. Hugs Fall "

" Ala, Sorry to say my Ins. didn't cover the cost of the generators. They cost around $3500 for the pair. It was expensive but well worth it. They have helped me so much. Dr. Jastreboff asked me how I would feel if he took the generators back, and I told him I would have to hurt him. He got a good laugh form that. Seriously, before I went on TRT therapy I waw very depressed and as we all know the noise is unberable at times. Since the therapy the noise level is around 70% lower, and is something I can live with even if it doesn't get any better. I still hear it but it doesn't bother me , unless I really focus on it. Sometimes I get afraid that it will get loud again, but I put my faith in God and try not to think about it. Dr. Jastreboff said once your brain is re-trained it stays like that, I hope he's right. Hugs Fall "
