Question about re-occurance? HELP

Hello all!
I have a question about re-occurance and would appreciate any advice or comments that you would share with me. I have been on Synthroid 250mcg and maintained a supressed level at this dosage for three years. I have been feeling very bad for the past few months and getting worse. My family dr ran some bloodwork and my tsh is 80! Do you think it could be a re-occurance? If anyone has had a reoccurance, what were your symptoms? I had a scan in November and it was clean. I am really freaked out by this news. I know how "easy" Thyca is to treat, but dread going through it all again. Also they found a lump in my breast. Could this be Thyca? I am going to have it checked out next week, but have to wonder about the coincidence. Again, I really appreciate anything you have to offer. Take care. Posted on 09/18/07, 07:09 pm |

Well, I'm no doctor, but this is what I've learned. While you can get Thyca anywhere - in lymph nodes all over your body is most likely - I'll bet your lump is not anything to worry about. If it is.. my prayers are with you. I know it's easy to treat, but it's hard to go through it all. I'm surprised that your TSH was 80 on such a high dose of Synthroid, but that is not usually a factor they look at when looking for cancer. You need to get your "thyroidglobulin" checked - it should be below a certain level - I would see and endochrinologist about it, not your family doc. I have to say that I'm not too trusting of the scans - I think a PET scan is much better and I would insist on it. Your doctor can fight with the insurance to get it approved - mine did and they found more that the scan didn't even show! Good luck and let us know what's happenin!

My partner who is 41 and male, in may this year had two operations, and in july had a dose of radioactive iodine - however he hasnt been feeling flash, very tired in the last 6 weeks, very hard t get active and his appetite off and on. He had a specialist appt. on Friday and his bloods showed Thyroglobulin was high, which could mean reoccurence, i hope not - I will be praying that he will only need another dose of radioactive, chin up and ill be praying for you. He is sore on one side of his gland - could be another little growth.

Thanks for the replies all. I did see my endo last week and he says that this is NOT an indication of re-occurence. He doesn't know what is causing it, but assures me that he will figure it out and correct the problem. He did put me on 300mcg of Synthroid and told me never, ever to take generic again.
He did run tests to check for cancer, and will scan me this week if anything comes back abnormal. I will just be glad when I get to feeling better. I don't think there is a muscle in my body that doesn't hurt right now. My thoughts are scattered and all I want to do is sleep. uuugggggg. Take care all.

Yes, they told me never to take generic - also to take it right when I get up with a large glass of water and to wait to eat at least 30 minutes.
